Sonically enhanced casks and black noise aging

The trash metal of Whiskey, Blackened is a collaboration brand between two legends, the beloved Metallica and Master Distiller and Blender Dave Pickerell whose name stands behind some of the best distilleries in the world. Sadly, Dave passed away shortly after launching Blackened in 2018, but his legacy stands protected by a Master Distiller Rob Dietrich who is both the guardian of Dave’s original recipe and the visionary driving the brand forward in the future.

Do you know how flowers grow better when they listen to pleasant sounds? Well, it looks like it’s the same thing with Whiskies. Blackened 72 Seasons Whiskey was finished in “sonically enhanced” casks, meaning the Whiskey was exposed to Metallica’s 72 Seasons album during aging, vibrating slowly to the low-hertz vibes and soaking up all of that wood flavor in the process. This method, originally envisioned by Dave Pickerell, has been named the “black noise aging process”. 72 Seasons Whiskey is a blend of fine Straight Bourbon and Rye Whiskies that was married and finished in ex-Brandy casks, giving this powerful 45% ABV Spirit a sweet note.
