French Blend

Man the finish on this one goes for days with a mouth coating smokiness and oak tinge. Rye is not my go to, and preferably I think the rye spice could be toned down a bit. But if you like spice and smoak this is the bottle for you.

Elegant balance of new world rye and old world brandies

Day 2 of the Hotel Flaviar Advent Calendar was one heck of a treat! Would have gladly bought a bottle of this one if it was available after our tasting this evening. Ratings were well above 8.5 for both my wife and I.

This dram opened sweet, flan with plenty of caramel sauce. Vanilla and smoke mingled throughout the entire tasting, but the best was yet to come. The rye spice and that earthy grape must and vine fruit perfume of Armagnac / brandy worked so well together. I am a big fan of grappa as well, so having these two flavors mingle was just an amazing experience. We absolutely love this one.

Hotel Flaviar Day 2

Deep golden color with a watery consistency that leaves behind streaked runny legs. A beautiful rich leather and toffee aroma on the nose. The initial sip packs a spicy punch that mellows out over time leaving behind a long but pleasant smokey finish.

Not my fav but very good

Like other reviewers I get the maple up front, with a hint of peatiness in the middle, finished with the sweet vanilla notes. It’s not my favorite flavor profile but I appreciated the complexity. Like others have said… definitely a promising start being only day 2 of the advent calendar!
