A small batch Extra Añejo for the most demanding of Tequila connoisseurs.

Just outside the town of Jesus Maria in the highlands of Jalisco, the Lopex family grows agave plants for making Tequila. Ken Austin found them there, and partnered with them to make a new Tequila together — creating Avion Tequila. The highlands have the best volcanic soils and perfect combination of micro climates to produce the best Tequilas in the world. In fact, their signature Tequila was awarded “World’s Best Tasting Tequila” and “World’s Best White Spirit” in 2012 against 1400 other spirit brands at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. They currently produce Silver, Reposado, Añejo, and an Extra Añejo Tequila, along with a unique Espresso Tequila Liqueur.

Avion Reserva 44 is a lesson in patience. It has all of the craftsmanship of their premium Añejo Tequila — the traditional clay ovens, 100% Blue Agave, charcoal filtration, and full copper pot still — all of that’s a given. Avion Reserva 44 goes the extra step of aging the spirit a full 44 months. The first 43 months are spent in their normal barrels, then the Tequila is transferred to smaller casks for the final month to give it a little extra time with more wood contact. It is a very limited, small batch Extra Añejo that the most demanding of Tequila connoisseurs will fully appreciate.

Unimpressed. Has a very hard alcohol finish. Other Extra Anejo tequilas costing similar are better for the money.

Pretty Darn Good!

Looks like someone just dropped a rating and dashed! No comment provided.

Not good, not worth the money. The ratio between alcohol taste and agave taste is completely off. It is too alcoholic and there are no aromas nor tastes that one would expect from an extra anejo. Would avoid

Verrrrry smooth. I totally enjoyed it, slight sweet vanilla tones and very sipable (if that is a word) For my taste, I will buy again!
