The first US exclusive bottling from Scotland's greenest distillery and best-kept secret.

The Ardnamurchan peninsula is a place to behold. A wonderfully remote “finger” of rocky land that stretches out to the furthest westerly point of Scottish Highlands just south of the Isle of Skye, it is an outstanding and untouched piece of natural beauty, full of natural resources.

No wonder this "best kept secret in the British Isles" became home to the Ardnamurchan distillery.

Opened in 2014, the distillery lies halfway along the peninsula in the small village of Glenbeg. Since its inception, it was designed to fit in with its surroundings, committing itself to sustainable production using exclusively renewable local energy sources: the river that provides the distillery’s cooling water has a hydro-electricity generator, the biomass boiler is fuelled by woodchip from local forestry, and the still energy-rich draff (what’s left in the mash tun) is combined with the pot ale to produce animal feed for use on the peninsula.

The distillery produces two signature styles of Spirit, one peated and one unpeated, designed to create an overall flavor profile that is true to the West Highland region.

The Ardnamurchan Single Malt AD/03.21:02 comprises an equal proportion of peated and unpeated malt, aged in 65% ex-Bourbon and 35% Oloroso Sherry casks and bottled at 46.8% without chill-filtration or color additions of any kind. Exhibiting the classic Highland character, this is the first US release and bottled exclusively for this market, so grab your chance to grab one!

Nose has baking spices, like nutmeg up front, which give way to a very fruity essence with apple and orange being the most pronounced. Spices and pepper stood out more with water. Initially the taste started with apple, peach and orange but the finish was definitely more peppery. Flavors were fighting more than they more complimentary for me.

In the nose I get a hit of peat and malt along with a little fruit. Tasting it, it's pretty balanced with some of that peat along with other notes. It's a good choice for those who want a single malt Scotch but don't like the smoke and peat bombs. Not bad.
