With their Whisky deemed “as close to perfection as makes no difference,” what once started out on a small Ardbeg farm owned by Duncan Macdougall, now stands as one of the indispensable cornerstones of the Islay Scotch Whisky production, winning a myriad of prestigious titles like World Whisky of the Year, Scotch Whisky of the Year and World’s Best Single Malt.

With their new series named after the most powerful supernova explosion in the universe, we think it’s safe to say that the producers wanted to shock you with a… hm, small taste blast. Hypernova Single Malt Scotch Whisky is an absolute peat bomb, opening up new horizons of smokiness, intensity, and powerful aromas with every single new sip. Smoked with non-Islay peat (for environmental reasons, duh) this firecracker was bottled at 51% ABV, with the amount of peat smoke in the malt clocking in at a staggering 170 PPM (parts-per-million). While the Hypernova Single Malt Scotch does not necessarily end up tearing the fabric of space-time, it unarguably introduces you to new, undiscovered layers of peat that will make you rethink your definitions of smokiness.
