Smoky Scotsman joins a tropical carnival.
Ardbeg Distillery is older than tin cans or typewriters. It was founded in 1798 on the southern coast of Islay, five minutes away from Lagavulin. It closed down in 1981, was brought back by Glenmorangie in 1997, and bought by LVHM in 2004. Ardbeg uses only two pot stills yet produces over a million liters each year. Their Scotch was even sent to the ISS in 2011 to see how it interacts with wood in space. We doubt it came back, though. We even spotted a bottle of Ardbeg in Keanu Reeve’s The Constantine back in 2005. The cool thing about Ardbeg is that they bottle their Scotch above the minimum 40% ABV and is one of the rare distilleries to use a purifier (which means smoother Whisky).
Now, they present us a rare and premium expression that was matured in ex-Rum barrels. They call it Drum and it celebrates the holy Ardbeg day with a flood of flavors and mesmerizing tropical twist. This one-of-a-kind release invites you with aromas of woodsmoke, ripe bananas and lavender to experience the lush flavors of smoke, vanilla and dark chocolate. Certain religions would declare such a heavenly Scotch a sin, while we bask in its decadent sensations.
