Crafted by the elements

Pike Creek is a small batch double-distilled blended Whisky produced by the Corby Distillers (a Canadian Spirits distributer and distiller from – who knew – Corbyville, Ontario). Originally it was a part of a Canadian Whisky series from the 1990s, but found the market a tad unreceptive – now, it’s making a comeback in style.

It was relaunched in 2012 with the tag “crafted by the elements”, showing how the distillery prides itself on involving nature’s ebb and flow into the crafting of its Whisky. This vibrant blend is matured in unheated warehouses, exposed to the freezing winters and the summer heat, and then finished in port barrels for a final sweet, fruity touch. The inconsistent weather means inconsistent taste, but while some might be afraid to let nature take its course in the making of their Spirit, Pike Creek see something unique in the unruly elements, and this Whisky shows it.

Bottled at 40% ABV in smooth satin-etch glass, Pike Creek Canadian Whisky carries no age statement (except for in the domestic market), but you can expect it to be between seven and eight years old.

Smartass corner: Canadian Whisky is often referred to as “rye”, due to its historically large content of the grain. Nowadays, most Canadian Whisky contains only a smaller portion of rye, while the rest consists mainly of corn and wheat.

Aged in port barrels... what are you waiting for? Simply awesome!!
Todd
Todd,
It's very smooth and a good addition to my bar. My only criticism is that I received the Pike Creek finished in Rum Barrels, which is not what was listed when I purchased it. Anyway, I still really enjoy it.
