One of our favorite super-premium Añejo Tequilas that sips like it’s even older.

Tequila Herradura is a legendary Tequila producer celebrating one hundred and fifty years. Félix López acquired the distillery from Feliciano Romo in 1870. It remained a family-owned and operated business for more than one hundred and twenty-five years and was seminal in the creation of the Reposado and Añejo styles. It has sense became a part of Brown-Forman where it is the foundation of their Tequila production. In addition to their own super-premium brand, Located in Amatitán, Jalisco, Mexico, they produce several other brands, including El Jimador — the biggest-selling Tequila in Mexico — among others.

Sometimes you worry when a premium Spirits provider is acquired by a big company. But a lot of the time it works out, and this is one of those times. One of the biggest benefits that Brown Forman brings is that they control their own barrel production. That means that not only does Herradura not have to compete for barrels on the open market, they get control of the barrels themselves. And that’s the secret of Herradura Legend.

For this special edition they ordered special casks that had been cut with deep grooves on the inside. This increases the surface area, which means more wood contact, and that means more flavor. Herradura Legend is a 100% Blue Agave Añejo Tequila aged for fourteen months in those special casks.
