Subtle and Classic Glenrothes from Another Era

There’s a tiny town in Scotland by the river Spey. They call it Rothes and with four distilleries operating there, it has Whisky embedded in its DNA: one of those Whisky-makers is the Glenrothes Distillery with its history dating back to 1879. After 140 years, the artisans behind Glenrothes are still committed to creating no-B.S. fine Single Malts that have been the building blocks of the Speyside Scotch reputation for ages. Their house style is a warming and creamy Scotch, while many of their bottles don’t state the Spirit’s age, but a vintage. Glenrothes expressions are mainly matured in Spanish ex-Sherry casks or barrels that used to hold Bourbon.

Only 4% of Glenrothes volume is released as Single Malt every year – the majority is bottled as a Vintage or a Reserve. The 1978 Vintage spent 30 years maturing and evolving and when Glenrothes finally released the Spirit, it blew Jim Murray's socks away, since he gave it 90.5 points in his Whisky Bible. It's an elegant and drinkable Scotch and even though it's "only" 43% ABV, the character is far from watery. The subtle and classic Glenrothes persona is well-rounded and balanced, perfect for relaxed sipping.

What does The Glenrothes 1978 Vintage taste like?

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in The Glenrothes 1978 Vintage and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland using a pot still distillation process at a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. It must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years (most Single Malts are matured longer, though).
