A Quintessential GlenDronach.

James Allardice was the second person to apply for a license to distill Whisky in Scotland, way back in 1826. Them’s some good times, my friend! Over the years, The GlenDronach has been owned by a veritable Who’s-Who of the historic lineage of Whisky masters; from Walter Scott, to Captain Charles Grant, and William Teacher & Sons.

The late 1990’s saw some troubled times for the proud distillery, and many thought that the Spirit suffered. But the good times roll again! The BeRaich Distillery Company bought out the property and has restored this Highland Single Malt to its former glory, and then some. Their entire Whisky line is "Sherried," meaning matured only in Oloroso Sherry casks. Highland, Single Malt, Sherry casks, proper aging… We're sold!

This classy 12-year-old Single Malt was re-launched in 2009. Aged in a mixture of ex-Sherry casks for a minimum of 12 years. Non-chill filtered, and naturally colored... bottled at 43% ABV, this release is a sweet, creamy dream… err, Dram… with warm, rich oak, and classic un-peated, Sherried notes. This Single Malt has GlenDronach written all over it. Not to mention it's won a fair share of Gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the World Whiskies Awards, and the IWSC.

What does The GlenDronach 12 Year Old Original taste like?

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in The GlenDronach 12 Year Old Original and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Ratings & Reviews
Zachary
Zachary,
Mild sherry cask flavors. Bold sweet malty charcter and hints of sweet fruits. Dry wine finish. Overwhelming honey on the nose.

David
David,
Really nice, very smooth. Great flavor, mouth feel is incredible, smooth sweet sherry finish without over doing it. For the price on this, (especially considering any other bottle out of this distillery), doesn't get much better.

Bryce
Bryce,
I drink more bourbon than scotch, but love Macallan 12 and the sherry influence in scotch. This bottle is fantastic. The mouth feel is incredible and the taste is wonderful. I enjoy this much more than Aberlour 12 and Flaviar has it a little cheaper than ABC stores in NC. If you like the sherry notes in scotch, you'll love this.

Joel
Joel,
Excellent all around flavor with a solid sherry hit that doesn't have the cloying flavor of other sherry casks. A really nice and easy 12.

Marc
Marc,
Absolutely delicious. My first "sherry bomb" of a whiskey. It has great fruit character, its lively. Give it a while in the glass to open up and you will be rewarded for your patience.

WESLEY
WESLEY,
Solid entry by GlenDronach. Could have used a few more years in the barrel, but otherwise tasty.

Bubble Yum Bubblegum.

Andy
Andy,
Starting to think I am not a scotch person. I like Laphroig but this was just ok. Has a nice nose with orange cream notes. Taste is just meh. Don't judge too harshly as I really like sweet Bourbon.

Sherry bomb, Px and oloroso , soft vanilla, dried fruits with a nice spice finish. All of this with a $60 Price point, buy it!

KEVIN
KEVIN,
New to my wet bar. Excellent Scotch. No smoke sherry flavor. Incredible.

Angel
Angel,
A sherry bomb to say the least. Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso all day in this dram. Buttery rich ripe fruits, subtle citrus notes. Dry but full finish. Complexity city.

guest
guest,
Mostly sherry on the nose. Initial taste was heavy sherry and some oak. Finish had some vanilla and spicy flavors. I liked it overall, nicely rounded.

Jeremy
Jeremy,
The sherry and oak are to die for in this dram. Beautifully well rounded with a sweet vanilla and nutty lasting flavor. Just the right amount of salty spice to it on the end. Quite lovely

guest
guest,
As its brother, the Cask Strenght edition, it has a sweet and smooth character. Unfortunately, it lacks in punch due to the ”just” 43%. Great scotch nevertheless.

Jose
Jose,
My favorite 12yr

Very nice, quite possibly a most favorite.

Wonderful full flavor

Kent
Kent,
Nice, but I prefer others...

Jacob
Jacob,
It was solid. I wouldn't buy again. There's other 12-year bottles that are comparable/maybe better. But solid taste if you like smooth sherry cask finish!

Gary
Gary,
Great! This is my new fave Oruro sherry cask whiskey. Very similar to the Macallan 12 but without the surfer. Highly recommend!

Michael
Michael,
just okay. warm and strong flavors. I guess I just don't like my whisky finished in wine casks

Ben
Ben,
A good balance between spice and sweeetness. Has a full body and a nice finish.

Richard
Richard,
A good whisky, all of the flavor of the 15 year revival, but none of the subtlety that the older expressions bring. If the 15 year were not available I suppose I might buy this from time to time, to reminisce on it's delicious older sibling, but this was likely a one time purchase for me. The 15 year revival exists at the intersection of the taste and affordability. This has a great sherry taste but the flavor is more strong and forward compared to the older expression.

Will
Will,
Nice, smooth with a nice balance of sweet and spice. Full bodied!!

Steve
Steve,
Not bad by any means, but if I'm going for a sherried scotch, I prefer The Lasanta, especially given the difference in price.

guest
guest,
My favorite scotch to date. Amazing all around flavor with no overwhelming notes, perfect balance.

Doug
Doug,
Hints of berries to go with the sherry…not very strong and kind of mellow, which is fine. A good dram but there's other sherry finished 12's that I find better. For example, I'd choose the Macallan 12 or Glenfarclas 12 over this if I had a choice. I find the Macallan and Glenfarclas more complex (and I prefer the Glenfarclas's subtleness and oiliness). Still, the GlenDronach is plenty good.

Greg
Greg,
My introduction to Glendronach was the 15 year Revival, which I describe a scotch with full-flavor, depth and texture. So, I wanted to try their entry bottle, the 12 year. And I’m impressed. Yes, 3 years aging makes a difference. Still, this 12 year is a palatable delight. Flavor rich sherry and sweet spicy heat, it goes down easily. Great addition to my bar.

Ryan
Ryan,
Drinks smoth, great sherry taste and full body scotch. This is an incredible value and drinks far above its price point.

Mikel
Mikel,
Near perfect bottle-will be stocking my bar with this from now on! The nose has a mulled spiciness to it and the flavor switches it up by being only slightly spicy, very little heat. Medium weight mouthfeel and a good pleasing mouthfeel.

Seth
Seth,
Spicy and smooth. Very little peat in the flavor, very enjoyable.

Jordan
Jordan,
Smoother sherry scotch with a bit of spice on the end. Minimal to no peat. Hard to beat at this price point for me.

Kevin
Kevin,
Come to daddy! Where you been hiding? I just got this, so god knows I might have an entirely different opinion by the time I get through the bottle, but right now it seems a great value, and a bit different from the Speyside whiskey I'm most used to.

Wesley
Wesley,
Really an easy drinking Scotch. Sweet and lightly smoked. The mix of PX and Olorosso casks is perfect for my palette. I tasted this head-to -head with Macallan 12 and was surprised at the results. This beat Macallan 12 easily. (At least according to both me and the Misses). I paid about 150% the cost of Macallan 12 for this. Maybe you’ll think it’s worth 150% the cost of The Macallan 12. It’s a good pour but it should be considering the cost.

Piotr
Piotr,
Incredible smell - full, sweet, sherried. Dry taste, a little spicy, next vanilla. Quite long finish sweet notes, some raisins. It is a really good whisky. Only spicy taste is stopping me from adding this whisky to my favorites.

Joshua
Joshua,
My desert island scotch. The sherry is perfectly weighted - still obviously drinking whisky, but its sweetness leads without being overpowering. This for sherry, Talisker for peat, and I'd probably be set for life.

Andrej
Andrej,
Soft. Some more character needed.

Kenneth
Kenneth,
Bit spicey . Mild Smokey peat and honey.flavor wheel suggests a more complex whisky than I taste.

Marwin
Marwin,
"Everyday" Single Malt Whisky...

Richard
Richard,
A bit spicier to the Glenlivet 12 year.

Michael
Michael,
Smooth, very sweet. Lighter bodied; flavor doesn't linger very long.

Dinesh
Dinesh,
Oaky and smooth
