A Highlander from Canada.

The story of Glenora Distillery is a classic David and Goliath tale. You see, Glenora is an upstart youngster, founded in 1989 by Bruce Jardine. But as soon as the word “Glen” showed in their brand, the Scots weren’t that happy so they had quite a few disputes and legal battles upon their hands. Despite their legal battles, since then they have won a lot of awards, started selling internationally and make a bloody good Canadian Single Malt Whisky.

The Glen Breton Rare 10 Year Old is one of the best new Whiskies to start their production in Canada in the past decades. In fact, the particular aging of this particular brand is listed prominently in the book “101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die”, by none other than Ian Buxton himself.

This lovely sipper is NOT a Canadian Rye. It is a true blue single malt that just so happens to be made in Canada. And heck, when you love a great Whisky, it shouldn’t matter if it was made in Scotland, Tokyo, or even New Zealand. It is the Whisky in the end that speaks for itself!

After waiting over a month on ...

After waiting over a month on this guy to get through customs, wrestling with the over-tight seal, negotiating a split cork and a fire that went out in the process(!).. I eventually sat down to sample this. A cool smoothness which I appreciated and perhaps is linked to other reviewers apple juice comments (with no apple..?). I enjoyed the smokiness with a strange char taste that comes with the finish. Not complex but a decent dram, will likely disappear quickly.
