The waters in these parts of Speyside are known not only for their purity but also for their healingpowers according to druid priests that lived there in times of the Celts. Later, they used the same water to baptise them into Christianity. So it is no wonder they used nature's best and produced a fantastic product. What better thing to make from water than Whisky!?
True to this legacy and heritage, young JamesFleming, a farmer's son who supplied grain to local distilleries had a dream to build a perfect distillery in the 19th century. A daring modernist as he was, he did not let anything differ from his expectations. And hisdream of the perfect dram lives to this day, in the Aberlour Distillery.
Aberlour 12 Year Old Double Cask is matured in two kinds of casks, in ex-Sherry and ex-Bourbon for at least 12 years and then "married" together for a short period before bottling. A heavy, brooding malt that is warming with lashes of Sherry, dark fruits and wood smoke that is not to be trifled with.
Definitely one of the best value Speyside malts around.
Smooth and subtle
Very smooth with subtle oak and liquorice. I didn’t get too much smoke but the Sherry was sort of there. Slightly underwhelming as a fan of smoky whiskies but it was nice.
Easy to drink and accessible price
Straight and good; won’t knock your socks off, but a happy dram for post work let downs
Hints of roasted apple, very smooth and drinkable.
Just might be my favorite Scotch. I know older expressions will undoubtedly improve on this (and cost an arm and a leg), but as an inexpensive daily drinker this is hard to beat.
An excellent sipping scotch, smooth and the flavors in it work together.
Fantastic. Very smooth and easy to drink
Smooth with a nice blend
Nice, the sherry definitely comes through and some good sweet fruity flavors tempered by a little spice. Would like it a bit higher proof, it feels flat at 80 proof.
Very nice Speyside. Nice blend of sweet and spice with just a touch of smoke.
A sweet honey and fruit nose with vanilla wafts. Smooth taste and mild spice finish. Not much smoke in this dram. Easy sipping scotch.
Very smooth and not "harsh" at all. No as peaty as some, but that's ok, I very much like the sweet, smooth taste of this one!
Very soft and sweet in the mouth. Not much complexity, but dangerously easy sipper. Good price for 12yo with both sherry and bourbon casks in play.
Love it - equal parts fruit and spice, smooth as hell
This is one of my favs. Smooth neat, and even smoother with one cube of ice.
A lot of smoke, some dark fruits and some other things I'm just not up to snuff on picking out yet (I'm a bit of a noob). Was less harsh and a bit sweeter than Ardbeg.
I didn't like this as much as I hoped. The mouth feel is good, and the taste is good on the palate. But the finish leaves something to be desired (for me). I think for under $50 I may try this bottle again, but I'll probably look elsewhere for bottles in the $60-$65 price range. I agree with the tasting notes, which is why I am not overly excited: the sweetness lingers on the finish, but the smoke and sherry dissipate pretty quickly. I'd prefer the opposite. Having said that, it's still a pretty good bottle. But, for my taste buds, Glendronach 12 beats this bottle.
It's about the most inexpensive 97-point bottle you'll ever see. A surprising treat with notes of apples and cinnamon.
I adore this scotch. Smooth to the last drop, with complex notes of spicy and sweet. Definitely a buy.
No peat, but great sherry sweetness. Smooth.
Excellent. Super drinkable. Super smooth. Will buy again for sure.
The packaging put red flakes of shiny stuff all over my study. I dropped a star for that. Decent dram for the money, nothing spectacular about the taste here.
Smooth fruity charecter, very enjoyable.
Great drop for the price, not as smooth as some but after 2 its as smooth as anything else.
This is wonderful!
Simply great. Fantastic blend of sherry, wood smoke, and dark fruit notes. The spice lingers with the sherry, then finishes with a nice sweetness
Perfect amount of fruitiness coupled with a spicy after taste. Loved every bit of it.
Love it. Smooth. Nice feel. No smoke.
Smoothest whisky I've ever had. Amazing.
my favorite of them all.... a bit sweet but not too... complex, each sip changes flavor. very, very smooth
This is my absolute favorite, I like it more than the A’bunadh. It’s smooth, tasty, long finish, and just a great whiskey to sip on.
Very good taste and smooth
Apple cider in the nose and palate. Smooth and syrupy. Finish with some smoke and more fruit. A delicious and easy sipper!
Great value whiskey. Beautifully fruity, easy to drink, can't fault it at this price really.
A scotch that is low on the smoky, peaty flavor but it is still present. Very smooth, easy to sip and enjoy.
Smooth, tastes older and more reformed than most 12 years
I thought it was a spicy start, but finished with smooth slightly smoky oak flavor. It leaves with a slight fruity taste.
Smooth as butter.
Smooth sherry notes with a hint of caramel and clove.
This is the first bottle of single malt scotch whisky I ever tried and a huge reason I’ve gotten into single malts and higher end whiskeys. Super smooth from the moment it hits your lips till you swallow and finish the last drop in your glass, I would recommend this to anyone out there.
Caramel and smooth
If Balvenie not found on my Deserted Island, then I hope I can find Aberlour. A truly diamond in the rough.
This was my very first bottle of scotch. Gifted to me from my mother-in-law decades ago. It's a great whisky for lovers of the sherry-aged malts. Very balanced with the light smoke up front and an easy spice finish.
Easily, my fav scotch. Was the best distillery tour as well! So drinkable.
* fav 12 yr
not as good as I was hoping. Very soft and pleasant. General fruit and honey with small spice and smoke. hints of caramel and chocolate. Smokey. A smooth but pretty single note whisky.
Nice initial kick to it though polite when nosing. The initial kick is also there when you sip. Beside the sweeter tastes like the sherry there is some woody oak to it but very little. The finish is not that long and the last you keep of the finish is the ethanol which is not so much so that it stays pleasant.
easily my favorite 12 year scotch.
Good start. pleasant and smooth. good balance of sweet, smoke, and spice but unfortunately Not very complex.
Nicely balanced scotch. I get the sherry and sweet notes initially followed by some spiciness. The smoky finish is mild (for smokiness that is). It's worth keeping a bottle of this around.
7.5. I'm not much of a scotch man, but this is pretty good. It's between a traditional scotch and the sweeter scotches aged in sherry barrels. I probably wouldn't buy it for myself.
Very smooth. Enjoyed it very much.
Just a very nice drinkable Scotch.
One of the best values for a 12 year scotch out there. Rich caramel and strong sherry notes.
Just wonderful my new favorite. Not to sweet, not to harsh, just smooth sipping, absolutely love it
Not too much smoke, not too sweet, and the smoothest.
This 12 year tastes every much of a 15+ year with flavor and smoothness. Cannot beat the value with the price
I love this. Very easy drinking, but with plenty of character. The only problem is that it seems to evaporate rather quickly.
Smooth, mellow, virtually smokeless, with toffee notes. A whisky anyone can love.
Perfect as desert after spareribs
Very smooth and sweet. A little one note compared other Aberlour products but worthy of a spot in the home bar.
Excellent, hard to find better for the price.
Really enjoyed this bottle. For the price, it's a great value.
Fantastic intro bottle for the price
Extremely smooth and easy to drink.
I love sherried scotches, but this one is too light for me. I like bolder offerings like Bunnahabhain, Glenfarclas, etc.
I agree. I was really excited for this one but felt it wasn't worth the price. A little disappointed
Very smooth a great scotch
Smooth, great for first time drinker and the seasoned veteran
Smooth and mild
Sweet smoke, caramel
my favorite scotch. very smooth, good price. great for daily drinkers
It's good enough, but a bit light. Needs some more fullness and complexity compared to what I was expecting. Maybe a good introduction
Very smooth. A good one to use to introduce people who aren't scotch drinkers.
This is by far my favorite Scotch to drink. I don't even like to share my rare bottle that I have in my collection. When my father passed away I found a bottle of it in his place and felt so sad that he didn't get to experience it but we have a taste every year on his birthday. I am traveling to Scotland this fall and have planned a trip to the distillery and will for sure be purchasing while there. Enjoy!
My favorite whisky so far..a 12 year as smooth as an 18.
I 100% agree
The reason for me to be here.
Very good balanced Whisky. Nearly perfect in every aspect.
Smells like green apple and tastes almost like a dry wine to me. Interesting smell and flavor combination.
Nice, straightforward whiskey. Notes of fruit and honey with a hint of peat.
Too thin on taste, doesn’t linger at all
This was one of my early experiences of getting into slightly pricier Scotch, and it is currently still my favorite. I drink it with basically a 1:1 ratio of Scotch-to-water, no ice.
Nice earthy initial taste, with a light finish of caramel & honey.
Everyday favorite for its smooth complexity and price point
Only had it on ice, but still had a decent bite. Will have to retry if
My Favorite of the evening of tasting that we conducted! Very smooth with hint of spice. It was a perfect selection to end the evening on!
I was impressed with this Scotch. Very smooth, nice flavor. Will definitely buy again.
Really smooth! Extremely happy with this selection!!!
Absolutely one of my favorite whiskeys. Rich with chocolate and notes of toffee
Great daily drinker, not as smooth a finish as the 16 yr but still very flavorful.
Smooth, Bold, little smoke but not over bearing. Sweet on the finish!
That’s how J like my scotch. not too smoky or peaty, just a hint of fruit without being too sweet.
My favorite, go-to Scotch. It's bold, yet smooth, with notes of caramel/toffee. Not much smoke and no peat. A great everyday sipper.
Smooth! Great drink with a single rock or not. Sweet and very smooth, after taste is of fruit. over great drink!
Very good, reminded me of vanilla cream.
Good value scotch
My favorite scotch (so far), it's a lovely sweet and smooth scotch with hints of caramel
It's a good Scotch but not great. For the money I would lean toward Glenfiddich, Glenlivet 12 for a smooth, affordable Speyside.
Beautiful scotch with hints of oak in the nose, as well as caramel, vanilla, and honey. Ultra smooth, with a wonderful taste of Christmas cake, and a nice chocolate finish (with some slight spice). This scotch will not disappoint. This will be a steady part of my cabinet.
This scotch has a delicious flavor overall. The distinct sherry flavor with hints of spices is fantastic followed by a sweet caramel finish. Simply delicious.
Very smooth !
Absolutely amazing! Very smooth not very smoky has a nice caramel foward flavor with a nice spice on the end.
Smooth and decent for entry level Aberlour > Macallan
Beautifully smooth. The sherry casks add a warm color and smooths the flavor on the tongue.
Love it. Best Scotch for the money!
Sweet delicious addicting nectar of the gods. This scotch is one of my favorites due to how well balanced it is and the price point is beyond reasonable.
Bit too sweet for me but goes down smooth
Perfect entry level scotch. Quintessential flavor and tastes without being too bold in any area.
Very sweet and tasted no smoke. Definitely expected more but not bad for a beginner scotch...
It's probably just a tad too smokey to be a yo-yo, daily driver, but it's really good. The nose is deceptive on this one so it's fun for my learning curve. Definitely enjoying it and would recommend!
Love this - probably my new favorite
Loved it. Incredibly sweet with a lasting finish. The only thing I dislike about it, I'll be finishing the bottle far too soon.
This is a very smooth scotch. Flaviar hit the nail on the head with the tasting notes. I'd say it's carries the bold flavors of a 15yr like Glennfiddich but with out the deepness. I'd bet a more mature cask would yield an excellent pour!
My favorite one in this price range.
Beautiful fruity smell, nice and delicate taste and a little oak finish with a touch of cloves.
Smells of Chocolate and honey, taste is very good. Sweet and warm with good finish.
Best 12 y/o I've ever had. Very impressed with this one! You would think its no younger than 15 y/o when you taste it.
Smooth smokey taste and great palate. My all time favorite for now.
Absolutely brilliant for a nice night in - smooth and sweet, pairs well with a light cigar. Sweet sherry nose above all, followed by somewhat more bitter dried plum and slightly burnt sugar. Taste is warm and sweet, sherry notes taking over (not in a bad way), a subtle flowery note kicks in along with some raisins and fruit (pomelo sprung into my head), leading through to the very nice finish of caramel and honey. I imagine this would be perfect on a snowy winter night in front of a fire place in a cabin, where the go-to for most would be mulled wine. Take the Aberlour 12 instead.
Smooth taste and perfect for beginner whisky drinkers. Not too strong of a finish and a beautiful color and opening taste. Sweet and citrus.
Enjoyed the flavor from start to finish.
Very smooth finish
Extremely smooth and very sweet, which I’m into. Very easy to drink, my new go to scotch at this price
Aromas of sherry, fruit flavored hard candies, dried fruit, caramel, honey,
Flavors of powdered sugar, spicy oak
For some reason very nostalgic: it’s a round rose-gold experience with brightness and memories of hard candies and 4th grade.
A tad too sweet for my taste
This is my go-to Scotch. Sweet on the mouth with hints of raisin and a warm smooth finish. A taste of this after a day walking in the Scottish rain (or any Scotland-esque rain) and you'll have found your soulmate.
So smooth whilst still packing a punch after two or three. This is my go to Whisky for a night out drinking, pairing this with a good blond beer is perfect
Nice and mellow. I wouldn’t know it was a scotch just by taste.
Smooth, full of flavor great value
This is very smooth and has a great vanilla flavor.
Scotch that is smooth. The taste is easy to identify and calming. Over Rocks it is even better.
Burns. Not like I like my ladies.
To me this is what Scotch should be. Pairs great with just about any premium cigar I have in my humidor. Just has a smooth nose, taste, and finish.
Just picked this up the other night, much rounder and softer then its bigger brother, the 16, but still a fine dram to relax with. Calming and uplifting, it washes the day away, but leaves you ready for the night.
I actually like this 12 year better than some of the other Aberlour. Lovely over rocks.
Smokey but not smokey enough. Heavy alcohol taste. A sweet finish. it's ok.
Tasteful. Excellent choice for the price.
Aberlour was all it was supposed to be. It was very smooth for a Scotch and the smoke finish was nearly perfect for me. I'm introducing it to my bourbon and single-malt friends. Please keep it in stock!
Very smooth, good burn
I enjoyed this bottle, but If I was to buy Aberlour again I would buy the 16. The 12 tasted like an immature version of it's older relative the 16.
One of my regular pours! Spicy with hints of dried fruit.
Smoke is noticeable in the smell. Very smooth to drink with caramel very present Slight smokey flavor. Nice burn going down. Very pleasant taste. Vey enjoyable
A nice smooth whiskey.
Good easy drinking
Great whiskey. Love the flavor
Very smooth, with a hit of peat smoke flavor and really nice floral
Sweet and floral on the nose. Less sweet and somewhat of an earthy flavor on the palette. I was waiting for something to excite me but it never came about. I might order it at a bar but I wouldn't own a bottle.
Love how smooth and flavorful it is
Smooth and sweet. Fairly light and does not coat the tongue as much as other scotches I've had. Honey flavors.
Smooth but fiery, with a little smoke and none of the caramel notes you sometimes get in a highland. Nevertheless, a good everyday scotch.
Smoke and butter flavor with a mild aftermath of flavors.
Smokey taste with rich aftertaste.
Picked up a bottle yesterday and tried it. Bursting with flavor and the smokey overtones. Impressive!
Great finish and smoke flavor throughout. Hints of spice and Carmel with a superb body that catches your attention. One fine Speyside Scotch.
When it comes to a Scotch to introduce people to this is my first choice.
The balanced flavor of Carmel, smooth, no excessive burn, semi- sweet.
Classic Speyside. Always a nice whisky
Loved this scotch. Smooth all the way through.
Bee nice and smooth sherry. For the price, can't beat it...
Mild, rund, aber wenig Tiefgang und etwas scharf im Abgang
