This ancient Cognac House has a modern view on the Cognac market, catering to both connoisseurs and aficionados as well as the younger audience that likes to experiment with Cognac, neat or in trendy cocktails.

Their younger expressions are elegant, fruity, and harmonious, while on the other end of the spectrum are Cognacs that are aromatic, intense, and complex.

Their Exclusive Cigar Blend is named after the Cuban valley where the best tobacco leaves are harvested, Pinar Del Rio.

The expression has been co-crafted with one of the best Cuban cigar makers, Don Alejandro Robaina, and includes very old eaux-de-vie from Gautier's Paradis cellar.

All about Cognac Gautier distillery

Gautier is based in Aigre on the Osme river, also known as the Little Venice of Charente. Their story began in 1644 when a man named Charles Gautier married Jacquette Brochet, a Winemaker's daughter. After a founding charter signed by King Louis XV in 1755, a royal warrant was granted to the Maison Gautier Cognac.

The Maison Gautier Cellars were built in a unique location; a former watermill in Aigre on the Osme river, nicknamed the "Little Venice" of Charente. Et voilà, Maison Gautier was officially born. The heirs of Maison Gautier succeeded each other for over 10 generations, building the family business.

In 1975, Gautier was acquired by the Marie Brizard & Roger International group, which was in turn purchased by the Belvedere Group in 2006. Gautier has one of the few female cellar masters in the Cognac industry, Isabelle Couprie, whose ancestors have been in the industry since 1750.

The Gautier's really are quite fond of the forest, actually owning a few of them. They became quite popular for crafted casks using wood from the Tronçais Forest, famed for its quality oaks. They choose the trees for the barrels carefully, and meticulously toast the wood to perfection.

The wood combined with the 18th-century water mill takes care of the aging for them. The close proximity to the water results in humid and cool cellars which give the Cognac a recognizable taste.

The humidity level of their cellars remains 70-80% throughout the year, which is close to those of cigar humidors. Coincidence? They create Cognac with heart and soul, without compromise. A Cognac that is a reflection of Maison Gautier.
