A highly anticipated dram of Bottled In Bond Bourbon richness with a high barley mash bill.

Leopold Bros. was founded by Todd and Scott Leopold in 1999. Todd has degrees in Malting and Brewing and Scott has his degrees in Economics and Industrial Engineering. These two brothers have since done the sensible thing and founded a distillery — first in Michigan, then moving everything back to their home state of Colorado. Their core lineup today is winning lots of awards and consists of Gins, Straight and Flavored Whiskies, Vodka, Aperitifs, an Absinthe Vert, and a few other tidbits.

Leopold Bros. Bottled In Bond Straight Bourbon is one of the newest Whiskies from Leopold Bros. It just came out for the first time in 2020 and we’re all glad it did. The mash bill is 64% corn, 21% malted barely, and 15% Abruzzi Heritage Rye. Now… if you’re a Whiskey fan, you know that barley is NEVER the second grain in the mash bill. It is too expensive and too hard to work with. But it is the best and it also adds floral aromas to the Spirit. But there you have it. The Spirit is pot distilled, aged for five years in new charred oak and bottled unfiltered at 50% ABV.

Smartass Corner:
Abruzzi Heritage Rye is sometimes called Carolina Rye and it has been grown in the southern US for hundreds of years. It’s not a "high production" grain, but it is famous for delivering herbal, peppery, and citrusy notes to the aged Spirits.

Appearance / Color
Bright Amber

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is heavily influenced by the barley with floral and grain notes over hints of cocoa, apple, and crusty bread.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate opens with a richer mouth-feel and a hint of ripe pear followed by English toffee, baking spices, and a dash of pepper.

Finish
The finish very smooth with an almost Manhattan cocktail note.
