This here's your golden ticket.

In the Brooklyn Navy Yard, on the waterfront that was once known as the distillery district, there’s a proud red-brick building that houses the first distillery in New York City since the Prohibition. And even if it’s a mere decade old, it’s actually the oldest distillery in Big Apple. They mash, ferment, distill, and bottle right there in that building, using New York grains. Practically the only thing that's imported are the Scottish copper-pot stills. In the short time that they've been operational they were named Distillery of the Year by the American Distilling Institute and have won several awards, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition included. Do we have your attention yet?

They also make a mean Moonshine! Somewhere along the way, they got the bright idea of creating the Chocolate Whiskey, based off that unaged corn goodness. They teamed up with fellow Brooklynites Raaka Chocolate, who operate from their factory in Red Hook, and infused the Moonshine with ground cacao bean husks. It's rich and bitter chocolaty goodness, propped up by the sweetness of the Moonshine.

Appearance / Color
Dark chocolate

Nose / Aroma / Smell
Intense dark chocolate hits the nose right away and is joined by sweet cherry, raisins, and a touch of wood and spice in the background.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
Dark, bitter Chocolate is prevalent on the palate with the sweetness of the Moonshine shining through along with some cherry and berry fruit notes.

Finish
The finish is spicy with some noticeable heat. It lasts long too, with a lingering cocoa note.

This is not for everyone but I...

This is not for everyone but I find it absolutely delicious. My only criticism is that it would be great to have a stronger whiskey flavor on the back end.

It is a great sipping whiskey if you happen to like very dark chocolate. It has a very forward cocoa fragrance and initial taste as it hits your tongue.

As it passes through your mouth you will taste dark fruits or berries, then a bit of spice.

I mostly use this for cocktails, so far and am testing out various recipes.

The last thing I made was a take on a boulevardier using chocolate whiskey instead of an amaro. It turned out to be too chocolaty even though it was tasty.

When I make it again, I will reduce the equal part of chocolate whiskey to maybe a fourth and the other 3/4 would be an amaro.

I did make a dessert cocktail basically a take on an old fashioned.

2oz Kings County Chocolate Whiskey
1oz Luxardo Cherry Juice
2 Dashes Angostura Bitters

Honestly, it tasted like a delicious cherry cordial candy. I probably would make half the amount and serve it as a side with coffee after dinner.

If you like sweet chocolate, this is not for you as it tastes like very dark chocolate. If you are adventurous and enjoy cocktails. I highly recommend this whiskey.

It’s basically whisky infuse...

It’s basically whisky infused with cocoa (though think bitter 100% dark chocolate, not sweet chocolate). It is what it is, it’s a very unusual drink, you will probably either love it or hate it. Also, definitely lots of potential for cocktails!
