Heaven Hill’s hidden secret gem is now available for limited national distribution… if you’re lucky.

Heaven Hill Distillers is unique. They are one of the oldest and largest Bourbon distillers in the world, they have the second largest standing inventory of aging Bourbon, and they have grown to become the seventh largest supplier of Spirits in the US. BUT… they are still family owned. In fact, they are the only family-owned production house left in Kentucky. God bless the Shapira family! The Spirit brands owned and controlled by Heaven Hill includes Evan Williams, Elijah Craig, their namesake Heaven Hill, and many dozens more.

If you are a regular reader — and why wouldn’t you? — then you might remember that last year we talked about Heaven Hills "Gift to Kentucky"... their White Label Bottled In Bond. Well, that glittering diamond of a dram was updated and is now available nationally. But what you might not know is that Heaven Hill 6 Year Old Green Label is their other hidden gem.

Up until just a few months ago it was only available in Kentucky. It’s a six year-old Bourbon at 45% ABV in the classic Heaven Hill style and is one of the greatest values in the history of ever. So, when we say that it’s great, we’re not saying it’s the second coming of Pappy Van Winkle. What we are saying is that it is a great Bourbon at a stunning price point and you should buy as many as you can get your hands on for your daily dram or cocktail.

J.B.'s father, Joseph W. Dant, invented a still made from a poplar log at 16, as he couldn't afford a copper still. Although crude, it worked exceptionally well!

At any given time, there are more barrels of Bourbon in Kentucky than there are people. The population of the Bluegrass State is about 4.4 million. Today there are more than 5 million barrels of Bourbon sitting in the rick-houses of that Old Kentucky Home. That’s nearly 300 bottles of Bourbon per person, or about 60 gallons each.
Bourbon must be made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn.
Sure, Kentucky gets all the press when it comes to Bourbon. And with good reason—nearly 95% of it is produced there. But Bourbon can be made anywhere as long as it's within the United States. Just ask states with budding distilleries like Illinois and New York.
Heaven Hill is a well respected distillery, even amongst their competitors. After the fire of 1996, the local major distilleries Jim Beam and Brown Forman shared their stills with Heaven Hill while they rebuilt.
Bourbons are very high in vanilla, as American White Oak is naturally high in vanillins.
