Character Goatson

For all of you who like a Whiskey with a strong character.

The founders of Bardstown Bourbon Company really stood on the edge of a 100-acre farm site in Bardstown, Kentucky, and thought: “Well, go big or go home.” And it looks like that big-shot mentality paid off as their remarkable facility quickly became one of the largest and most innovative distilleries in the world. So, if we translate that into numbers — the distillery produces 7 million gallons of Spirit and 110,000 barrels per year. Sheesh. Founded in 2013, with production hitting full stride in 2015, they are the central production for dozens of famous brands — including Jefferson’s, High West, James E. Pepper, and many more.

Hand Barrel is one of their respectable projects that revolves around creating the perfect Whiskey — one that had to work hard for its character and class. Their small-batch barrel-to-bottle approach really emphasizes the bottle part, with all of their sleek vessels designed to protect the golden juice from being compromised by the harm of the UV light. Their Single Barrel Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey was made from 10 hand-picked barrels from their rick-houses, with the mash-bill consisting of 64% corn, 24% rye, and 12% malted barley. Bottled at 52.5% ABV and non-chill filtered, its rich flavor profile promises a unique sipping experience, with notes of oaky caramel, cinnamon spice, and winter clove.

Bourbon must be made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn.

Limestone Branch Distillery, which produces Yellowstone Bourbon, also makes Minor Case Bourbon and Bowling & Burch Gin.

At any given time, there are more barrels of Bourbon in Kentucky than there are people. The population of the Bluegrass State is about 4.4 million. Today there are more than 5 million barrels of Bourbon sitting in the rick-houses of that Old Kentucky Home. That’s nearly 300 bottles of Bourbon per person, or about 60 gallons each.
Bourbons have very prominent notes of vanilla, as American White Oak is naturally high in vanillins.
"Remember that iconic poster from World War II showing Rosie the Riveter as a patriotic American woman doing her part for the war effort? Well, hundreds of businesses did their part too, and the Bourbon distillers stepped right up with ‘em.

Distilleries all over Kentucky and Tennessee were re-tooled to distill fuel alcohol and ferment penicillin cultures to treat wounded soldiers."
Bourbon only needs to be placed in a new oak container for a few seconds to be called Bourbon. Fresh from the still and unaged Bourbon is called a White Dog. Recently, many of the larger distillers have started packaging this harsh, clear grain spirit for sale.
