A World first.

Yes. You’ve read it correctly. Black Tomato Gin is the world’s first ever tomato Gin. The recipe was created by Leon Meijers and Alfred Sandee. The inspiration and the ingredients came from the location; the love for Spirits came from the heart. The black tomatoes are grown in Sicily; pure seawater from the Oosterschelde is also added to the mix.

Well, one liked tomatoes the other liked Gin and voilà. What’s more – the funny combination works! Although the complete recipe remains a mystery, we know it includes tomatoes, juniper berries, piment, botanicals and salt water. All the ingredients are processed as separate distillates, before sea water is added. The concentrate is developed with grain alcohol, then cut down to 42.3% ABV. Packed in a nifty black matte bottle, you get a sense of the fact that this product is tremendously well thought out.

Artisan, organic small-batch Gins are all the rage right now, new brands are formed every day, but we haven’t seen something as unique as this in a long time. It stands out. The tomatoes give this bad boy an incredibly fresh feel. The soft, delicate notes hint at a secret ingredient, which we cannot quite pinpoint yet. It works well as a cocktail Spirit, it's up to par on its own. You say tomato, we say to … p-notch Gin.
