All about Bushmills distillery

Bushmills Distillery is located in the village of Bushmills. It was founded in 1784 by Hugh Anderson. For a long time it continued under silent management. In 1885 it was destroyed by a fire, but soon rebuilt.

The SS Bushmills, a steamship owned by Bushmills, made it to America in 1890, delivering its Whiskey to the New World before Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Yokohama.

Bushmills survived the period of ProhibitionWilson Boyd, Bushmills' director at the time, predicted the end of ban and had large stores of Whiskey ready to export, which was a great advantage.

In 1972 the distillery was bought by Irish Distillers, then Pernod Ricard and finally Diageo in 2005. In 2015 Jose Cuervo acquired the distillery from Diageo. Bushmills distillery has a capacity of 2 million liters per year. Their malt is 100% malted barley, which is used in their single malt Whiskeys.
