Westward Whiskey was founded by Christian Krogstad, who graduated from the Siebel Institute of Technology—America’s oldest brewing academy. Today, his Oregon distillery produces five signature Spirits, including Aquavit, Vodka, Casa Magdalena Rum, tasty coffee Liqueur, and of course Westward American Whiskey.
Westward Whiskey is an original American Single Malt twice-distilled in copper pot stills and aged in lightly-charred new American Oak. It’s a Single Malt fermented like an Ale and aged like a Bourbon. Interesting combo, right? There’s a reason that each release of Westward Whiskey sells out so fast.
Based in Portland, Oregon, Westward Whiskey was founded in 2004. The company produces a number of Liqueurs, Whiskeys, Vodkas, Rums, and Aquavits.
The distillery has its own tasting room in Portland's famous Distillery Row and offers tours to the public. The focus, for these guys, is on craft, small-batch Spirits, using the finest ethically sourced ingredients.
For example, the Westward American Single Malt is made with barley grown in the Pacific Northwest. Every batch of every Spirit and Liqueur is overseen by the Master Distiller.
Due to the fact that Whiskey is essentially made from Beer, Westward hand-crafts their Whiskeys by initially brewing an American Pale Ale, from scratch, using locally malted barley, ale yeast, and slow, low-temperature fermentation. The Ale is then twice distilled in their bespoke low reflux pot stills, designed to create a bold and robust Spirit.
Westward Whiskey is an award-winning American single malt. The Northwest provenance delivers a distinctly rich, brazen Whiskey, balanced and full of bold flavors of sweetness and spice. The unique culture, climate, and natural ingredients of the American Northwest impart a unique character onto the Single Malt, which is aged to taste in Oregon. Here the hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters create an ideal environment to mature high-quality Whiskey.
