An intriguing finish in the Bourbon category, executed right.

Founded in 1874 in Bardstown, Kentucky, The Barton 1792 Distillery has been around for a while and it’s changed many-a hand and many-a name. Right from the start, Tom Moore was an employee there and he eventually bought the distillery and named it Morton Spring Distillery. Then, he sold it to a group of outside investors. He stayed as an employee at the shop, but then, he bought the lot next door to open a brand new competing distillery. Eventually, he was able to buy Morton Spring Distillery once again and merge the two operations, building an innovative Whiskey empire. He renamed the combined operation “The Thomas Moore Distillery”. After the Prohibition, he sold the property and it was bought and sold a few more times. Sazerac bought it in 2009 and decided to rechristen the entire operation “The Barton 1792 Distillery.” Full circle.

Thomas S. Moore Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Chardonnay Casks pays homage to the Bourbon pioneer that was making the juice at the distillery back in 1874. It’s made from Barton 1792 Bourbon with a high rye mash bill that’s first aged for at least 5 years in new American oak and then finished in Chardonnay casks for a couple of extra years. Definitely not your ordinary Bourbon finish, but we’re absolutely here for it. It’s rich and super buttery with flavors of citrus, tropical fruit, and oak.
