A pungent, strongly flavored and well-crafted Reposado that rise above its name.
Tequila is actually the name of a town in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The agave Spirit that we all love was named after that town, which sits at the center of Tequila production. By legal definition, Tequila can only be made from Weber Blue Agave in the state of Jalisco and a handful of neighboring towns. By legal definition, ANY agave Spirit made outside of that region cannot be called Tequila. Agave Spirits from other places can use any variety of agave they want and are usually called Mezcal. But what if you made a premium Weber Blue Agave Spirit to the highest standards — just like Tequila — but you were a few miles south of the official boundaries in the Morales district? Revel Spirits calls these "Avila" and was founded in 2012 to bring these Spirits to market for the first time.
Revel Avila Reposado is exactly what a fan of premium Reposado Tequila wants. The 100% Weber Blue Agave piñas (cores) are roasted and steamed for complexity. They are fermented in stainless steel and column-still distilled before being aged for twelve months in ex-Whiskey casks. We can’t call it Tequila, of course, but this is a premium Reposado Tequila in everything but name. IN fact, a few years ago at the New York International Spirits Competition it was named "Tequila Reposado of the Year," and we think that it is the first non-Tequila to do that.
