This little Caribbean Queen lies a little about her age… she shouldn’t, because those extra few months make all the difference.
Plantation Rum is owned by French Cognac producer Maison Ferrand, who controls no less than a dozen major brands of premium Spirits and Liqueurs. Sometimes that is an iffy proposition, but not in this case because the folks at Ferrand are all about quality… and you can taste it.
Plantation Rum is their top shelf Rum label. And mighty good stuff it is, too. They offer a variety of Rums from the Caribbean. Depending on the plantation and the country of origin, the Rums can vary between soft and aromatic to light and elegant… each one showing the gentle, experienced influence of Maison Ferrand.
Plantation 5 Year Old Rum is a bit of a misnomer. You see, this lovely Rum is definitely a blend of fine Barbados Rums that are indeed aged for three to five years in ex-Bourbon casks. But this little Caribbean Queen is then moved Château de Bonbonnet Cognac casks for one to two years to mature.
Plantation Rums are famous for this magical extra step and it makes a REALLY big difference, especially in the complex aroma… scratch that, let’s call it perfume. So sure, Plantation 5 Year Old Rum lies a little about her age. But she shouldn’t, because that extra character and flavor is what Rum aficionados are looking for.
