A revitalized MacNair’s Blended Malt Whisky with a deep and smoky profile and a good attitude.
The GlenAllachie Distillery sits on the Aberlour stream near where it empties into the River Spey. It was built there — less than a mile from the more famous Aberlour Distillery at the base of Ben Rinnes — in 1967 to produce Spirit for Scotch blends. It has been purchased, sold, mothballed, and opened again no fewer than four times since then. But in 2017, Billy Walker, Graham Stevenson, and Trisha Savage merged a few Whiskey brands and this under-utilized distiller gem to form The GlenAllachie Distillers Company Limited — now with a new core range of four Single Malt Whiskies in the Speyside style.
The Macnair’s brand of Whiskies has been around a long time with a cult following. But times have been hard for this small producer located near The GlenAllachie. In 2017 The GlenAllachie Distillers Limited picked up what was left of the the company and have set about lovingly revitalizing the brand and Spirits.
MacNair’s Lum Reek Peated Blended Scotch Whisky is a delightful combination of peated Islay Single Malts aged in ex-Bourbon casks, peated Speyside Single Malts aged in Oloroso Sherry casks, and older GlenAllachie Single Malts aged in virgin oak and Red Wine casks. The set is married at The GlenAllachie and bottled properly at a perfect 46% ABV.
Smartass Corner:
So, what the heck is a "Lum Reek?" The phrase comes from a Celtic blessing for good fortune — "Lang may your lum reek." Which translates as "Long may your chimney be filled with smoke." In other words, may things go well enough to keep the house warm and your food hot.
