The mountain is calling.
A fateful tour of Maker's Mark Distillery in 2009 inspired David Perkins and his wife Jane to start their own operation. David — a former biochemist — basically said, “Hey, I can do that!” and moved his family to Utah and began their new venture. He was right; he indeed could do that, since success has come hard and fast. They now produce a range of products including their four core Whiskeys, three current limited releases, two bottled cocktails, and two specialty spirits, which win fans and awards alike.
High West began with humble roots, opening a small, 250-gallon still and Saloon in a historic livery stable and garage. The once small operation has now grown to be an internationally recognized brand with four unique locations. High West is not only the first distillery in Utah since Prohibition but also the only ski-in gastro-distillery in the world! That’s one of the ways we picture paradise for sure.
The distillery isn’t more than a dozen steps away from the chairlift at the bottom of Quittin’ Time ski run at Park City Mountain Resort. Make sure you’re done with your skiing for the day before you enter this fine establishment because you’ll want to sample everything they have to offer. Including the High West Vodka 7000. Did you know that 7000' is the exact elevation of High West Distillery's bar?
The name pays tribute to the high-altitude environment and its unique attributes, which lead to a magnificent product. The pure snow-melt mountain water, naturally filtered in deep rock aquifers, and carefully distilled, locally-grown oats give the Vodka its smooth taste and rich bite. Oats? Yeah, you read that right. When it comes to combos of identity, tradition, and ingredients, it doesn’t get much better than this. When the mountain is calling – you must go.
