A deeply complex and satisfying blend of Bourbons finished in Dark Rum and Oloroso Sherry casks.
Four Gates Whiskey Company is the brainchild and passion project of Louisville-based "Chief Barrel Officer" Bob D’Antoni and "Chief Blending Officer" Bill Straub — who is also Editor in Chief at ModernThirst.com. In 2018 they started sourcing aged Spirits, carefully combining them, and finishing them in rare casks to make a series of limited edition releases. The results have been impressive to say the least. With less than a dozen releases out so far, they have already had eleven of them score above 90 with Whiskey Advocate’s tasting panel and six being named a Top Ten American Whiskey in 2019 and 2020.
Here at Flaviar we are Whiskey Nerds and proud of it. So, there are two things we love about Four Gate Whiskey Company. The first is that they consistently produce innovative and tasty drams. The second is that they keep no secrets — they give a TON of details and specifications which means we’re in heaven.
Four Gate Andalusia Key Batch 9 is comprised of three different Bourbons finished in two different cask types. The Bourbons include a 6-year-old (78% corn, 10% rye, 12% malted barley), a 9-year-old (75% corn, 12% rye, 12% malted barley), and a 12-year-old (74% corn, 18% rye, 8% malted barley). A portion of all three were finished in Dark Rum casks. Then some of the 9-year-old and 12-year-old were finished in Oloroso Sherry casks. The final Sprit was not chill-filtered and they bottled just 1,309 bottles at 60.6% ABV. (Whew!)
