Five & 20 has created a bright and fresh Bourbon aged in small casks to develope a deeper palate.
The Mazza Family has been in the Spirits business in the US Northeast since 1972. The Mazza Vineyard and Mazza Winery have been staples to locals along the New York / Pennsylvania boarder. In 2005 they needed more space and started construction of a new facility along Route 20 in Upstate New York on the shore of Lake Erie, but with an eye to future expansion. The brewery and distillery were outfitted in 2015 — transforming them into a Spirits-making trifecta.
For the experienced Whiskey-lover, the specs of Five & 20 Straight Bourbon Whiskey tell you everything you need to know. It starts with a mash bill of 70% corn, 15% rye, and 15% malted barley. This high corn content tells you that this dram leans to sweeter caramel notes and the relatively high malted barley will have you looking for floral notes on the nose. It’s aged for two years, but in extra small casks so you will expect a Bourbon that’s bright but with the wood contact and resulting vanilla notes of an older Spirit. And it’s 45% ABV, so you know that it will stand up well in your favorite cocktails.
