Fantastic and Smooth Grain Irish Whiskey.
In Ireland, Egan means business. The Egan family have been making Whiskey since the 1800s and the current rivers of Spirit are made by the sixth generation. Patrick J. Egan, a benevolent and workaholic founder of the Egan's distillery, once said the Irish people should not consume English and Scotch beverages if there's great Irish booze to be enjoyed. The company went under in the Sixties, but in 2013, the descendants resurrected the brand as a bottling company and launched their first expression the following year.
One of the loveliest expressions must be their Vintage Grain, made from a mix of grains with a column still, which is a welcome detour from pot-still, all-barley Irish Malts. Put in ex-Bourbon casks in the year when everyone was crazy about blue creatures of Pandora, and bottled in 2017, it is a potion to behold. Pale gold color brings soft aromas and flavors of oak and leather. The warm Spirit is perfect for an easy sipping either neat or on rocks, but nobody will hold it against you if you use it for a smooth Vintage Tullamore cocktail (add sweet vermouth, Campari and orange bitters).
