When someone tells you to picture a quintessential, traditional Scottish distillery in the remote beauty of the one and only the Highlands, the image that pops to your mind is probably pretty close to that of Balblair.
It's one of the oldest Scottish distilleries, founded in 1790 by John Ross. If you know the motto of their current, long-time Distillery Manager John MacDonald who says that "making Whisky should be a craft, not a process", it makes sense that Balblair is famous for releasing only vintage Highland Single Malt expressions. In 2019, however, this changed, and they also said bienvenido to age statements. A new range of age statement expressions was released, each one of them rare and unique, but all of them beaming with pure Highland Spirit.
The 15 Year Old is the second Whisky in the Balblair collection. It was matured first in American oak ex-Bourbon casks and later moved to first fill Spanish oak butts. This is a stunning Single Malt Whisky, full-bodied and velvety, with the texture of melted chocolate, ready to seduce you with its maturity. It might be even smoother than that 90s RnB song you used to put on in the evenings, but at the same time, it never lost its unmistakable, sharp Scottish character. Let yourself be seduced by this one and you'll never want to look back.
