The first thing that you notice about Apocalypto Tequilas is the striking decanter. Each bottle is a half man/half jaguar head that looks like you might have found it carved into the side of an ancient Mayan ruin. But Apocalypto Tequila is more than just packaging and marketing spin. This line of 100% agave Tequila comes from Destiladora del Valle de Tequila in the State of Jalisco. These hombres have been making high quality Tequilas brands for a long time. In addition to Apocalypto, they produce Blue Laguna, Don Sergio, Casa Maestri, and a dozen more.
Just like its sisters, Apocalypto Tequila Reposado is 100% agave farmed, cut, and distilled in the lowlands of Jalisco. But being a Reposado means that it is rested a minimum of six months. Apocalypto uses ex-Bourbon casks for aging, lending distinctive smokiness and sweet caramel notes.
This makes it a great sipper straight that will make you think it’s Rye Whiskey’s cousin from south of the border. So we say, not a good fit for a Margarita, but perfect for a Charming Foxhole or Federation cocktail.
Smartass Corner:
"Destiladora del Valle de Tequila" translates roughly as "distillery in the valley of Tequila." Like Scotland, the State of Jalisco has "Highland" and "Lowland" regions. The word "valle" refers to their lowland location.
