If these 733 Whisky bottles could talk...

Oh, the tale they would tell. One of whipping winds. The swell of the sea. A sinking ship. An odyssey undertaken by two men on a small boat with their sights set on Islay—all in the name of art. The ending of this tale has yet to be written. And you can be part of it.

Born out of art and adventure

The sea is a tumultuous siren, calling to those who court adventure. In 2015, artists Maxime Berthou and Mark Požlep heeded that call, refurbishing a tiny old fishing boat and setting a course from France to the Bunnahabhain Distillery on Islay. The journey spanned 733 perilous miles that witnessed both men nearly losing their lives.

The boat was then turned into two Hogshead barrels that were used to finish a Bunnahabhain's 11-year-old single malt. Now, the Whisky is ready to be savored—a bottle for every mile traveled. It's available to Flaviar Members, each bottle accompanied by a wood covered ship's log.

Proceeds from the sales of Whisky and book will be used to produce a movie of this odyssey. The kicker? All Flaviar Members who purchase a bottle will be credited in the film.

Take a sip, then take a bow.

"Wind is vigorous in the sound of Islay and the tides were pushing us with an enduring power. A shower joins our appointment, stout and violent, it reminded us again of the almighty reigns of the nature and the sea."

Bunnahabhain Hogshead 733

This is a Whisky with a story to tell, finished in wood that’s weathered the sea. That kind of journey builds character. Which is what you’ll find here, along with the smoky and oaky richness you’ve come to love in your Islay drams.

Much like the ocean, this is a natural dram—non-chill filtered and without artificial coloring. At an undiluted cask strength of 51.2% ABV, it delivers a subtle heat that warms even the dampest of sea days.

Only 733 bottles exist, one for every mile travelled, each one bearing Bunnahabhain’s coat of arms and a map tracing Maxime and Mark's perilous path. The bottles are hand numbered and accompanied by a tome of its epic tale. The book is a testament to the trip undertaken by the artists, a timeless record encased in wood that includes the ship’s log and photos of the journey.
