Dictador Solera finesse. Carribean flavor.

Dictador is one of those elite brands, any true Rum aficionado should sample and experience. Destilería Colombiana, based in Colombia, has been distilling high quality Rum for more than a century. Only recently though, they’ve stepped away from blends and started developing their own private label – Dictador Rum. It was about time too, since their solo products are pure quality. It’s no wonder that their Spirits consistently win awards and the praise of Rum-lovers everywhere. Based in Cartagena on the Caribbean coast, the combination of land and weather provides the perfect base for sugar cane growth and therefore Rum production.

The Dictador 12 Year Old Rum, made from the fermentation of unique virgin sugar cane honey, then distilled in a modern stainless steel alembic. This Dictador is a solera aged Rum, meaning it’s drawn from the solera vat at the ripe age of 12. Younger Rums are aged in oak casks and then blended with older Rums. The marriage of old and new provides an end result that is one of the most exquisite Rums you’ll ever get to taste. This Rum is aged for 12 years is pre-used oak barrels, and bottled at 40% ABV.

A little bit of etymology; nobody really knows where the word Rum comes from. Most popular suggestions are: Rum (the Romani word for potent), Rumbullion (an uproar), Saccharum (sugar in Latin), Rummer (a Dutch drinking glass).
