All about Queens Courage

Queens Courage is Gin brand by Astoria Distilling Company.

The idea for Queens Courage Gin was born a New Years Eve night in 2011. By Spring 2012, the concept started to come to life. Founder Chris Murillo started visiting local distilleries, absorbing everything he could about the art of distilling.

Their Old Tom Gin is a great twist on the typical Gin flavor. It has the typical juniper taste with an added drop of honey, to give it a sweet floral note. There are also succulent and juicy orange peels and lemon zest to really give this dram a good tang!

Queens Courage is also smooth enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks. As a New York Spirit, the Gin is crafted using New York grains, and 100% pure New York honey to sweeten the Gin, a portion of which comes from rooftops in New York City.

Queens Courage also has a malty element that gives the Gin a luscious mouth-feel and a subtle malty sweetness. The Gin also has lovely citrus notes of grapefruit adding a slightly bitter note that complements the honeyed notes.

Unlike most Gins, Queens Courage’s botanicals are distilled in separate fractions. Allowing each botanical fraction to get the most individual flavor from the meticulously selected botanicals. The botanicals are then combined to create a harmonious flavor profile. Quite a lot of extra work, but the end result is worth it.

All about Queens Courage distillery

The Astoria Distilling Company, based in Queens, New York, was established in 2014. Founder Chris Murillo left his job where he’d practiced law for nine years, and set to work creating the first distillery in Queens since Prohibition.

The small, family-run company describes its mission as creating premium Spirits that challenge the status quo. There’s currently only one Spirit under their belt (as well as a bar) – Queens Courage Gin. The Spirit is produced at a third party distillery while the Astoria Distilling Company is currently waiting on permits and licenses to proceed with its own distillery build. Watch this space…
