George Remus was a German-born lawyer who was known as the King of the Bootleggers. During the Prohibition, he defended many arrested bootleggers, but his best client turned out to be himself.
Although trained as a pharmacist who became a lawyer, he found his success as a bootlegger as he found a loophole (or two) in the Volstead Act to craft Bourbon for "medical purposes".
His legend continues with Remus Bourbons which are produced in Lawrencebourg, Indiana, just miles from where George ran his Prohibition empire. The Bourbons capture the rebellious Spirit and are intended for pleasure, not (only) medicinal purposes. Their expressions include a Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Single Barrel Cask Strength Bourbon and an ultra-premium Bourbon which was released to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Volstead Act.
