Ginuary started in 2012, when Australian-dweller Miss Ginuary, feeling particularly G-inspired during a Sober October, decided to try a new Gin a different way, every day for a month. Now in its seventh year, Ginuary has become a global phenomenon, with bars, brands, hotels, Instagrammers and bloggers everywhere getting involved.
Sounds fun, right? It is. But the bit is there. Are. No. Rules. That’s right, you can choose to celebrate #Ginuary any way you like. But here are a few ways to get you started (don’t say I don’t ever give you anything).
Gin offersThe New World Trading Company, parent company of UK bars including The Botanist sites, Birmingham’s The Canal House, Liverpool’s The Club House and London’s Trading House, is running a Ginuary Sale; offering 2-4-1s on selected Gins including Masons, Whitley Neill, Liverpool Gin, Bombay Sapphire and Caorunn.
The Lakes Distillery is offering a free 5cl mini with every 70cl purchase on their website - the perfect excuse to try one of their new Gin liqueurs (the Damson is my fave).
Legendary Gin-haunt The Oliver Conquest in London’s East End is having a mammoth Ginuary sale, with over 50 Gins on offer, and reduced prices across their Gin cocktail menu, too. The Gins on offer will be rotating, which gives you the perfect excuse to return.
RecipesWith literally hundreds of Gin drinks out there, it’s easy to stick to what you know and have another G&T. But Ginuary is the time for trying new things, and we’ve rounded up the best Gin cocktails to add to your repertoire this month.
First up, this reinvention of a classic from Sipsmith; the coffee Negroni. The simple addition of cold brew coffee to your Negroni sounds weird, but it really works.
It's the most exciting time of the year. #Ginuary has begun. Kick it off in style with this reinvention of a classic: The Coffee Negroni. 25ml Sipsmith London Dry Gin 20ml Cold Pressed Coffee 25ml Campari 25ml Sweet Vermouth. Stir over ice and then serve in an ice-filled Rocks glass. Happy Sipping. . . . #Cocktails #Cocktail #Gin #Ginstagram #Ginspiration #Negroni #MadeInLondon #newyear #2017
For something a little more spicy, try this from Burleighs Gin:
*20ml Burleighs Export Strength Gin
*20ml Green Chartreuse
*20ml Cardamom-infused Maraschino
*20ml Lime juice
Fill a cocktail shaker with cubed ice, add all the ingredients, shake and strain into a chilled coupette.
Scottish Gin brand Caorunn has got plenty of cocktail recipes over on its website, including a winter spiced G&T, various Martinis, and a few Gin punch recipes, too.
Try new thingsFor those in Scotland, the recently launched Gin Spa in Glasgow is well worth a visit. The world’s first botanically inspired day spa offers a free G&T with every treatment. If a massage and a manicure with a G&T isn’t the best way to relax, I really don’t know what is.
