All about The Ardmore

As we have said, Ardmore is the rare Highland single malt Whisky that peats its spirit. Don't get us wrong, this is not Islay-born dram of fire and ash. The peating at Ardmore is gentle and subtle, which makes it a perfect introduction into the more manly Whiskies for the uninitiated. You will find smooth caramel notes and toasted barley flavors across their entire range.

All about The Ardmore distillery

Ardmore sits right at the very center of the eastern Highlands, in the town of Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire -- just outside the Speyside region.

Adam Teacher founded Ardmore distillery in 1898, in the Highlands of Aberdeenshire, to fill a specific need. His father, William Teacher, needed a steady supply of Whisky to support their famous blend—Teacher’s Highland Cream.

Beam Suntory owns them these days and, until very recently, have treated this fine producer as a “blender’s distillery.” But those corporate mucky-mucks have wised up and have focused their attention on producing fine, premium spirits on their own.

One of the things that makes Ardmore so unique, is that their malt is one of the very few Highlanders to use peat smoke. That alone is a reason to celebrate their brand and character.

They will continue to be a primary contributor to the blended Whisky market, but we are all anticipating a full range of single-malt offerings still to come. Just in the last year they have issued their Ardmore Legacy single-malt, a triple-wood, and a brand new Portwood finish.

These guys are a production powerhouse with a capacity of more than 5.5 million liters. Think about that for a moment... that's enough Whisky to give everyone in the UK, Ireland, AND Australia a shot, and you'd still have enough left over for Iceland too.
