CAPTAIN MORGAN

Distillery
Founded in 1944
The Rum brand Captain Morgan was created by the Spirits company, Seagram Company Ltd. in 1944.

The acquisition process that saw Seagram broken up, change hands and ultimately lead to Diageo taking control of the brand.

The Captain Morgan in your bottle varies depending upon the market you are in, as Diageo buy distillates of varying ages from unaged to lightly aged, and from different Rum producing markets to make a specific blend for each market.

The only common factor across the market is that ‘The Original’ (Dark) expression Rum will have a dose of caramel added to make it look the way it does.

What does Captain Morgan taste like?

The Flavour Spiral™ shows the most common flavours that you'll taste in Captain Morgan Rum. It's based on all Captain Morgan drinks in our large database and gives you a chance to taste Captain Morgan before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavour Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

The Captain Morgan brand was created in 1944 by the Seagram Company.

Diageo acquired the brand from Seagrams in 2001.

Jamaica is the only market in which the Captain Morgan name can be used on a Rum that isn’t produced by Diageo. In this case, it is produced by Wray & Nephew Ltd. and can’t be sold outside of Jamaica.
