A big, bold, flavor bomb Rye Whiskey from Wild Turkey at Cask Strength.

In 1869, the Ripy Brothers started distilling on Wild Turkey Hill near Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The namesake product became their number one seller and the name of the distillery was changed to reflect that success. The Ripy Family sold the distillery in 1952, and then the normal rounds of mergers and acquisition occurred. Campari Group out of Italy owns them now and they produce a wide range of Bourbons under the very popular Wild Turkey name along with several other brands. All under the watchful eyes and experienced hands of the only father-son master distiller team in the business โ€” Jimmy and Eddie Russell.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Straight Rye is the sister Spirit to their Rare Breed Bourbon, and it could be even better. This Rye is one of the few that is not chill-filtered. It is a powerful, Cask Strength version of the signature Rye that they launched just over a year ago. That means it is built on a mash bill of 51% rye, 37% corn, and 12% malted barley. And do not let the lack of an age statement bother you here. Like the other Rare Breed, it is a blend of various aged casks from their portfolio so there is plenty of older Spirit here to please. And at 56.1% ABV there will be plenty of pleasing goin' on.

Fantastic rye. It has all the qualities I like in a rye. The burn is a bit less intense than other ryeโ€™s.
