The oldest Diageo’s Special Release of 2021.

Lagavulin is one of the most famous Islay Single Malts and the top one produced by Diageo. The Lagavulin Distillery was founded by John Johnston and Archibald Campbell in 1816, but records show that illegal distilling had been taking place on the same site as far back as 1742. It sits on a natural harbor on the south shore of Islay about half-way between Laphroaig and Ardbeg. Its core offering — the sixteen-year-old — won an unprecedented four consecutive Double Gold medals followed by three Single Golds at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and has been featured in movies, television shows, and literature — it’s become a part of the world’s culture.

Every year, Diageo’s master blender Craig Wilson curates a collection of 8 limited and very much sought-after Single Malts. The selection of 2021 is called Legends Untold and the oldest bottle featured is Lagavulin 26 Year Old 2021 Special Release. It spent all of its 26 years in first-fill Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry-seasoned casks, slowly building that peaty-meets-intense-sherried character. This is hands down a huge, bold Whisky. You’ll also notice there's a QR code taking you to a “multi-sensory” experience with distillery’s legends and tales. Oh, and there were only 7,542 bottles made.

Best whisky I’ve ever had. I love Lagavulin 16, but understand it’s not for everyone, the 26 year balances the peat with a nice sherry finish. So smooth!
