Winter warmer.

Little Slovenia is the land of many treasures. Nestled in the heart of Europe, where the Alps and the Adriatic meet the Pannonian plains and the mystical Karst, it is truly the land of diversity. The different regions offer huge contrasts in landscape and scenery, pristine environment and picturesque towns. Complementing all that natural and cultural goodness is something a bit more "Spiritual," that we simply cannot forget when talking about national treasures and has caught our eye for obvious reasons.

Slovenia's favorite local Spirit is fruit Brandy, more specifically "Viljamovka," made from Williams pear. Slovenian diversity is also evident in this particular area. We've tried to uncover the very best this wonderful but perhaps underappreciated Spirit has to offer. "Zima" translates as "Winter," but this Schnapps is the perfect uplifting antidote to the cold, dark months of the year. We get a little warm just thinking about it. And we're not just blowing hot air.

Why do we love it? Well, Zima Williams by Evrosad is a delicate and delicious pear Brandy – made in the old-fashioned handcrafted way with the finest old varieties of pears and superior distillation. The name comes from the fact that the winter months are traditionally the time when the orchards are resting, and pear Brandy is produced. The founder of the company first started distilling in 1965 and the love for Spirits runs in the family. The son Boštjan Kozole is now in charge, but he realizes that the strong roots produce the best results.

That's why they kept up with tradition – the recipe remains the same, and so does the commitment to the local environment of Posavje region where every step of the production process takes place. They respect the proud heritage and expertise on making these Spirits, while also realizing that a fruit Brandy is only ever as good as the fruit from which it is made. The end game is simple: To make the best pear Brandy in the world.

Brandies can help digestion, so they are perfect after meals. They were and are still are considered medicine.
Nevertheless, the best Brandies are required to preserve the concentrated flavor of the used fruit.
Brandies can help digestion, so they are perfect after meals. They were and are still considered medicine. Basically, any fruit that can be fermented can be distilled and turned into Brandy.
Brandy was invented in the 16th century by a sneaky Dutch merchant who learned how to remove water from Wine and save cargo space. He then added water again and called it “Bradwijn”, which means “burned wine”.
