Another winning Single Malt from Wolfburn, served au natural at cask strength.

Thurso is the northernmost town on the British mainland. The first Wolfburn distillery was born on the site in the early 1800s. But by 1872, production had ceased. In 2011, Single Malt industry veterans Shane Fraser and Lain Kerr revived the namesake far northern spirit. They broke ground in May of 2012 and had the first completed buildings by September, with production starting the following year. They haven’t looked back — developing a range of Single Malts and periodic small batch special releases.

Probably the best thing about Wolfburn Langskip is its simplicity. 100% signature Wolfburn Single Malt aged entirely in first-fill Bourbon casks and bottled at near cask strength — 58% ABV — in its natural color and without chill-filtering. That’s it. Note the refreshing lack of marketing spic in that description. When you’ve got game, there is little need to embellish. And though this is an NAS Spirit, this powerful, spicy dram is silky smooth and fresh.

Smartass corner:
The “Langskip” were Viking long-ships with a single, central sail and banks of oars. It is the tradition ship you might think of transporting Viking warriors.

Ratings & Reviews
Andi
Andi,
Recently my mother came out of Hospital and this was her welcome home gift [flowers are there too of course] I had gone back to the homeland to be with her for the week, a couple nights later one of the village expert whisky drinks was in and I gave him the bottle to open - an honour from me However the honour was for him - I recounted the story behind Wolfburn as he poured himself a LARGE glass I suggested a little water but he knows better! I did have water after all it is 58% We were both impressed with spice and sweetness Happily he only had 3 glasses and his wife drove home

Kelby,
Very strong - perhaps cask strength on this one is not for me. Enjoyed it however, but probably won't buy another bottle as I'd like to try something different.

Loris,
Very spicy, a curious hay aftertaste

Leslie
Leslie,
Very peppery on first taste, followed by a strong hint of smoky pear, and an almost flowery finish. Maybe a tad too much pepper

Lasse
Lasse,
Strong hints of vanilla and dark chocolate. Spices and pepper in the after taste.

Mehdi
Mehdi,
Love the gingery peppery palate. Warm and sweet finish. Respectable young whiskey.

Jon
Jon,
Sweet and peppery on the nose and the open, with a dry finish that leaves warmth throughout the throat. A very accessible whisky (especially considering it’s 58% vol.), that can be enjoyed by peat and sweet enthusiasts alike!

Matthew
Matthew,
Light peat taste, sweet start and very little spice on a dry finish.
