Member Reviews and Ratings of W.L. Weller Special Reserve Bourbon Whiskey (1.75L)
Certainly one of my favorite bourbons. The trick to NOT paying too much for it is to find it in certain states that it is somewhat more available (albeit usually in less metro areas) and sells for close to normal retail cost.
Great at msrp not wroth the 120
One of my favorite bottles when purchased for the right price. Anything over $40 is pure robbery.
As stated, excellent for the normal price point. Super smooth nose and flavor with just enough complexity.
Great bourbon @ $24.99 not @ $90.99
10/10 if you can find it for MSRP
It’s good. But retail is 30$...
Love the softer wheated approach here.
Nice everyday Bourbon, but you shouldn't pay more than $35.
This is good stuff, but not for this price. Just paid $50 for a 1.75L.
Amazing bourbon, but come on on flaviar.... your ripping us off on your price
Good finish, steep price.
This is a pretty good pour at its retail price point which should be $25-$30. If you are paying more than $35 you are getting ripped off.
I also paid $29 a bottle 2wks ago.
I paid $29 for this bottle 2 weeks ago.
Shocked at the price -- used to get from local store for $25.
Almost papy retail on here :)
Yeah flaviar’s price on this is RIDICULOUS
Easy drinking, sweet, a bit oaky.
Perfect balance between sweet and spicy, and the finish is smooth, too.
As far as wheated bourbons go, this is top notch for a bottom shelf price. Somewhat complex with a decent linger. Better than most competitors and the price makes it even better.
One of the definite go to!
Very smooth vanilla and butterscotch flavor with a little burn not much. Great on ice.
4 roses small batch is better
Easy to drink - great for it's price. Will get again
Good for the price, not overly complex but would make a good daily drinker
If it wasn’t so rare, it’d make a great daily drinker, but thanks to some dumb hipsters, it’s almost impossible to find any of the Welllers and Van Winkle’s, even the low end Special Reserve! Nothing extremely special about it, but better than any other wheat brands I’ve tried(at least those brands bottles in the $25 range) like Maker’s, Larceny, Rebel Yell, Redemption Wheated, etc etc. Spicy nose with lots of vanilla and caramel, palates the same, mouthfeel is good but not great, and the finish is medium length and more spicy than sweet if you ask me. If it was as available as, say, Buffalo Trace, I’d drink it around twice a week(as an every day drinker), but it’s not, so I have a bottle or two in my collection for the sake of the collection, and that’s about it. A must try for wheater fans, but don’t go spending crazy money for it. Overall, 78/100
Excellent, especially at <$30 price tag. Little known fact, this comes from same warehouses as what becomes Pappy Van Winkle bottlings. A solid deal at this price, and fits in a nice area with Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace and Knob Creek. Some of the best values out there in my opinion.
Super smooth wheated bourbon.
Excellent smooth and complex compliment to Weller 12 at a better price. Still give the edge to the 12 but this is an exceptional bourbon for sipping.
As far as I’m concerned there’s not a better bourbon for a cheaper price.
Great for the retail price (under $30) but not worth secondary pricing
Smooth & tasty
Sweet spice upfront. Cinnamon aftertaste. Very strong aroma.
Nice and neat
This is a solid versatile bourbon. Smooth enough to drink neat but not so high end you would feel bad about mixing cocktail with it.
Sweet wheated bourbs. I had this neat so far, and it is smooth. Waited for some fire but remained smooth and clean. I love it
Smooth wheat start with a tad of a bite at the end. Not overwhelming though. Good stuff
No better value. Avoided it because I assumed its taste was commiserate with its price. Boy was I wrong. This Bourbon is simply amazing.
One of my favorites!
Pretty tasty for the price and how can you go wrong with the baby version of Van Winkle
