A sweet and delightful Irish Single Malt bottled naturally at 59% ABV.

Patrick Cooney knows Irish Spirits. He and his brother Nicholas purchased Gleeson — building the beverage-maker through organic growth and acquisitions to a nine-figure Irish giant. Patrick sold Gleeson in 2012 and has turned the family’s attention toward a new legacy — the Na Cuana beverage company and the Boann Distillery. It’s a true family business with his wife Marie, his daughters Sally-Anne and Celestine, and their sons Peter, Patrick, and James. Thier brands include Adams Ciders, Boyne Brewhouse Craft Beer, Robert A. Murray Irish Cream Liqueurs, and The Whistler Irish Whiskies.

The Whistler 'Natural Cask Strength' 7 Year Old Limited Edition begins as the same core Single Malt Irish dram as The Blue Note edition. But as the name would imply, is indeed strictly limited to just 1200 bottles corked up at a "natural cask strength" of 59% ABV — a lovely number indeed. It is aged first in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks before being transferred to Oloroso Sherry casks for two more years. Also as you might expect, no chill-filtering or artificial coloring is needed at all. And if you are looking for Gold Medals, this dram has them a’plenty.

Smartass corner #1:
"Na Cuana" is Irish for "The Bays," reflecting the seaside location of the company.

Smartass corner #2
The Boann Distillery is named after the goddess of the Boyne river and valley where it sits.

Smartass corner #3
Patriarch Patrick Cooney is known for whistling while walking around and through the distillery in the course of his duties. The Whistler line of Irish Whiskies is lovingly named in his honor.

Irish Whiskey has many varieties: grain Whiskey, malted barley pot-still-distilled, and ‘pure pot-still’ (or ‘single pot still’ as it is now officially known). Then there is Poitin, one of the first Spirits ever made.

Warm Amber

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is powerful and decadent with note of salted caramel, flamed orange zest, and a bit of apples and pears.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
Taken neat, the flavor profile jumps with citrus zest and spice with sticky toffee pudding and sultanas.

The finish is long and strong with a rich warmth.
