Excellent taste. Very shuttle and smooth.
a fruit forward rye that goes for days. Starts with spice and toffee that intermingles dark berries light oak that finishes vanilla waffers
I’m not a huge Rye fan so I wasn’t sure about this one. I was pleasantly surprised with this blend. It was smooth and flavorful. I have another bottle on order.
Taste is better than most of the WP lineup, mostly sentimental connection because of the blending together alone
Light, somewhat bland
That disappeared in one evening with a friend quite easily. Smooth and warm with no bite on the rocks or neat. Definitely an addition to my list of favorites.
Great finish. Smooth.
Really loved this. Broke it out during a party and all loved!
This was my first go at WhistlePig, I was impressed with the smoothness, and crisp after taste. Will definitely purchase again.
I really enjoyed this. Smooth, tasty, a little spicy.
Not what I expected. I am a regular WP drinker- I will stick with the 12 year thanks.
Appearance: Color is amber, decent legs... Nose: Cinnamon apples, barley, nutmeg?, an assortment of baking spices. Holiday spice cabinet... Palate: Warm cinnamon sugar and grain, almost like a cheap churro but not quite as sweet. Background apple note, but not as notable as on the nose. Unique, though not that special... Mouthfeel: Average... Finish: Continuation of the barley grain and cinnamon note... Overall: Unique, different flavor profile than a Rye, Wheat, or Single Malt Whiskey, but not my style.
Love it! Just the right amount of smoothness and tang.
Nice and mellow with a little spice at the end.
I don’t think it was anything special, somewhat disappointed in it
I got a sample of this and have to admit it was the first taste of any of the whistle pig products and I wasn’t impressed at all. Didn’t care for the nose and didn’t care for the taste. After trying that I tried the piggyback rye 6 yr and absolutely loved it.
True, it’s not the best whistlepig. But I’ve only had the ten year and twelve in different versions and I honestly think this one is still really enjoyable. Not the usual hot spice but still keeps its character as a whistlepig!
Thin, lacking in any significant aroma and pale in color. Taste is primarily sweet. I wouldn’t recommend.
Weaker than expected
Loved it. Super smooth. Slight smell of Carmel and bit of vanilla on the back end. Was great straight up and also over rocks.
Why only one star?
Why only one star?
Cherry aroma, smooth, yet light finish without much spice. Nothing to write home about, but would make a good old fashioned or manhattan, I imagine.
A nice blend and smooth with the right bite.
Awesome !! It has become a Top Shelf in our home bar !
Nice with that expected Rye bite finish. Makes a great Manhattan and a good sipping whiskey.
As a "non" connoisseur, I enjoyed it. But probably wouldn't purchase again.
Really liked this it was sweet not a ton of heat and really enjoyed over an ice ball. This I would buy if I saw in the store.
Not happy with this one. Hard to explain; it just didn't work for my wife and I. I'll use in mixers, never straight
Nice smooth taste, not too much of an alcohol bite. Very drinkable.
Yellow gold color with thin rim and beady drops in a glen cairn. Mild grain nose, with building spice. The mix of grains is very unique to the nose and is pleasant, if not outstanding. Herbal notes and lemongrass come with some air. Palate is soft, wine-forward with a little heat and yeast. Red fruit backs it up leaning towards orchard fruit. Finish is medium length and slightly hot and drying, with red fruit following. Coating mouthfeel with a light-to-medium body.
Reasonably smooth, but kind of bland. Got a sample, don't know the price point, but wouldn't pay more than $30 or so for a full sized bottle. If this is introduced at a higher price point than that, there are much better whiskeys out there.
It has a sharp, spicy taste, which let's you know you are drinking a whiskey. The finish gives a reason to keep drinking it, with the flavors which are initially overwhelmed by the spice, linger on the tongue.
It is a great drinking whiskey when I want something with a little bite to it.
I like it . The process to get this fine Whiskey was cool and inventive . Smooth stuff, I give it eight !
Enjoyed it very much. Smooth and mild.
Exceptionally smooth blend. Not too hot, with very limited pepper like you might expect from a rye blend. Very approachable - will definitely try again.
Loved it, shared it. Bought another one as a thank you to someone helping us with projects. Excellent blend. Proud to be a part of this.
Very light and bland. Not much here for me.
From the moment I opened the bottle and got that great smell I know this one was special. It is so smooth a blend I glad I had a chance to be part of the process.
Not as good as simple ten year whistlepig
The first sip teases of a bite but comes through with a very smooth finish. Will be trying the other pigs soon.
A little biased being a huge fan of WhistlePig, but this whiskey is smooth, delicious, and very well blended. It won't "blow your mind" but great all the same.
So good, So special so reasonably priced for the quality! Keeps me coming back for it.
I might be biased, but I love it.
Smooth, aromatic, just the right "bite".
I was hoping for more. Not impressed with this offering from the Pig
very smooth and drinkable. perfect blend
Almost undrinkable. Until this bottle, I ve loved everything that I've tried from WP. I've come to expect a peppery, spicey, vanilla flavors from WhistlePig and this was none of that. Sickly sweet with a boiled orange peel after taste. I didn't notice before buying that there was a high concentration of Canadian Rye... and I've yet to taste one one those that I like, either.
It’s ok in mixed drink......
Smooth. Great finish.
This is one of the most unique whiskeys I’ve ever tried. It is very Christmas baking spice (nutmeg, cinnamon, etc) forward in a very authentic way. Smooth, flavorful, and a rare experience for whiskey. I was honestly blown away!
Nice sipping! Exceptionally smooth.
Smooth with a light nose and a bit of spice and vanilla.
Definite notes of caramel, dried fruit, and leather to the nose, mildly spicy and vanilla at first taste, with a sweet and fruity middle and short finish. A nice offering and excellent work by the Flaviar crowd.
Interesting, liked this better than the previous WhistlePig I'd had. I missed getting the tasting kit by a couple hours, but wanted to try the results.
A lot of Oak on the nose. good heat throughout vanilla and cinnamon with subtle caramel and slight fruit on the back end.
Light is the first thing that comes to mind. Exceptionally smooth. Drink this neat or not at all
Just loved this spirit. Just takes a one finger pour if straight, or cover your ice if you go that route, and you have a whisky that can be sipped for the evening.
The nose was sweet vanilla with a hint of spice. The palate was initially sweet vanilla or caramel, followed by a spicy and sweet middle with maybe a little fruit, followed by a touch of oak and spice. It coated the mouth fairly well, but the finish was not very long. It is a good, smooth sipper and probably will be a great mixer.
Nose: sweet, dried fruit
Taste: spicy front, sweet middle, and eucalyptus finish. Nice warm hug.
Smooth, sweet all the way through. Nice summer whiskey.
Caramel and honey, super smooth
Smooth, light and fruity served neat, but really opened up with a single ice cube.
Smooth and a bit sweet. Tastes present to me were honey, caramel, and vanilla.
Smooth, amazing, light taste. Really liked this and will be purchasing.
This is my first Whistlepig, and makes a really good first impression. Even though the mash bill is mostly rye, it isn't as spicy as the ryes I have tried. Very fruity character on the nose, reminiscent of green grape to me. Definitely get notes of vanilla and toffee in the nose as well. Great mouthfeel, with an oiliness that coats the tongue. Spicy with notes of toffee on the front end, some vanilla mid-palate, and a berry freshness. Good, finish, with a slight non-bitter barrel flavor lingering for awhile
Great offering but very pricy
Very good. Smooth at the beginning with significant spice at the end. Like spicey marshmallow.
I just tried it and I can't untaste what you described.... I had burnt caramel and vanilla..... and something I couldn't place..... ohhh yep! Marshmallow!
I give this one a 10 just for the Cool Factor. Will revisit if I ever decide to open this bottle. I expect I won’t be able to hold out too long.
Maybe you should review it after tasting it 👍 let us know if it's still a 10!
Compared to WhistlePig 10 Year Rye I would rate 6.5/10. Much lighter, not as complex but still clearly a refined whiskey. Both spicy but Homestock tails off after spicy whereas 10 year Rye finishes strong with Rye and Mint flavor. For what it’s worth I think the 10 year Rye is superb so maybe not a fair comparison
Nice up front, I'm getting some burnt grain flavor toward end. Not at deal breaker levels but unrefined
Very impressed with the Flaviar crowd that came up with this blend! Delicious!
I have to forget about WP 10 year when I drink this. Homestock tastes young and a little astringent in comparison. I absolutely LOVED the blending event--yes, I had a kit--but was on team wheat, not barley, so maybe that is part of the issue for me. Nonetheless, I will have no problem finishing the 2 bottles I ordered.
Well balanced, smooth and delicious. And can we contact that person that rated it a 1 but had a glowing review, methinks he forgot a 0.
Is it unique, or does it closely resemble some other whistlepig variants in your opinion?
Bold taste with a nice finish.
This is a perfect blend. As though I chose the blend personally.
I like the bold flavor and the spice after a long day/night at work, perfect to end the day with!
