The Boss Hog five promises state that every edition guarantees a stupendous and powerfully complex Whiskey, single barrel in origin, bottled at proof, and unique from anything we’ve ever before tasted. A siren's call if we ever heard one, but the potentially bad results from heeding them really only ever apply to excessive consummation.

With 'The Boss Hog IX Siren's Song' Straight Rye Whiskey, WhistlePig steers its amber vessel deep into ancient Greek mythology mixed with a little less ancient Greek Spiritsology. Just like Odysseus, the Rye Whiskey is taken on a long, aging voyage before being called upon by Sirens to finish its journey in barrels formerly belonging to Greek fig nectar and an herbal liqueur called Tentura. Compared to the original Greek myth, the result is far from tragic. Supple sweetness, exotic spice, orange blossom, dried fruit, and fig bring out the Greek imagery with every sip.

To make it extra collect-worthy, the bespoke pewter topper is adorned by one of nine, and each bottle comes equipped with NFC technology, enabling collectors to authenticate and register their treasure with one tap of a smartphone.

What the heck is a “whistle pig” anyway? Even though the label for Whistle Pig Rye is adorned with the sketch of a tuxedo-clad hog, “whistlepig,” groundhog, and woodchuck all refer to the same animal.
Rye - think of it as Bourbon's edgier cousin. It’s known for what many call a spicy or fruity flavor. Rye (distilled from at least 51% Rye) is not on the sweet side and tends to have a spicier body. That’s why the character of a cocktail made from Rye, instead of Bourbon, is drier.
Rye sparked the first revolution after the American Independence. It was called the Whiskey Rebellion, and it arose when the government tried to tax Whiskey and enforce the taxation on distillers. The lesson here? Don't mess with a Whiskey drinker's dram.
A decade ago there were only 6 brands of Rye Whiskey hailing from Kentucky, nowadays there are more than 50!
George Washington famously loved his Rye Whiskey. In fact, after he served as the first president of the United States, he returned to his farm at Mount Vernon and started a small Rye distillery of his own.
