Westland Sherry Wood American Single Malt Whiskey

Westland American Oak Single Malt Whiskey
Nathan,
Westland American Age: 3 years Proof: 92 Natural Color Non- chill filtered Nose: straight oak tannins. Slight hints of caramel & vanilla Palate: Rich. Peppery. Vanilla and caramel Mouthfeel: moderate Finish: bright, more pepper with lots of vanilla chasing the pepper. Score: A- I can see this being worth the $70 price.
Westland Sherry Wood American Single Malt Whiskey
Alexander,
The sherry aftertaste tastes out and it has an oak smell to the liquor. On the rocks it’s very smooth, taken neat it has a noticeable, albeit pleasant, burn on the back end.
Westland Peated American Single Malt Whiskey
Matt,
Nicely peated, compares well to Islay scotches.
Westland Peated American Single Malt Whiskey

Westland American Oak Single Malt Whiskey

Westland American Oak Single Malt Whiskey
Brian,
Overall, not a bad whiskey, not my favorite but not bad. If you drink it neat you'll get hit with the pepper right off the bat, It's not overpowering but it was the predominate flavor I got as I sipped it. Fairly smooth with a finish that lingered. Add some ice or a touch of water and the flavor profile really opens up. The pepper takes a back seat and you get the chocolate and cherry flavors. Respectable dram.

James,
I love the subtle complexity the sherry cask aging adds to the nose and finish. It's still one of my favorite American malt whiskies.
Westland Sherry Wood American Single Malt Whiskey
Rex,
Very nice. Sits on the tongue without burning. Nice oak finish.
Westland Peated American Single Malt Whiskey
William,
Discovered this at a Scotch bar in Union Square. It's every bit as good as most good Scotches, but the price tends to be a bit higher than it should be. At $60, this would be great. At $90, I can usually find something better.

Rodney,
This whiskey is just tasty. Check out the flavor spiral! Also, low key, there are very few calories.

Burton,
This is my first Westland expression, and it won't be my last. Honey, sweetness, dark fruits, a nice spice. A pleasant surprise for me.
Westland Peated American Single Malt Whiskey
Jitendra,
Almost compares to islay peat whiskey
Westland Sherry Wood American Single Malt Whiskey
John,
Sherry wood noted throughout which even lingers as other flavors come out. Fruity at the beginning that turns into strong raisin notes and spicy finish. Would get again and introduce to others.
Westland Peated American Single Malt Whiskey
John,
Smokey, peaty upfront and throughout-Spicy finish. Surprised to have ranked an American peated bourbon 9/10 right under one of my personal favorites, Lagavulin 16 yr.
Westland Peated American Single Malt Whiskey
Jordan,
Very unique flavor- coffee & dark chocolate notes. Unlike any other whiskey I've tasted. One of the best bottle/label designs I've seen.
Westland Peated American Single Malt Whiskey
Michael,
The peat is mild (nothing like an Islay malt, for example), but nicely compliments the chocolate, sweet side of this whiskey. This makes for an easy drinking malt.

Michael,
I attended a spirit event in Seattle a couple of years ago that featured local distilleries. As I went about the room tasting their offerings I was getting more and more disappointed, as most of what I was sampling was alcohol forward and harsh to my palate. I was in the process of making my way out of the venue and as I passed the Westland booth I was beckoned to try one last sample and I’m glad I did. This whiskey has become my “every day” spirit. Sweet, smooth and balanced.
Westland American Oak Single Malt Whiskey
Michael,
The waffle-cone and chocolate smell/taste is definitely there and is quite unique and interesting. Extra points for the distinct profile.

James,
I love the sweetness ("You can pour it on your pancakes"). Plus, it's grain forward with that single malt, and the sherry casks give it an almost wine-like smoothness.
Westland American Oak Single Malt Whiskey
Michael,
Add a small bit of water or a small ice cube and the flavor really comes out. It's a fantastic pour if you ask me.
Westland Peated American Single Malt Whiskey
John,
On first taste, it might be a bit peaty for my palate. Not enough to make me walk away, mind you. I can absolutely taste why others might enjoy it, and it smells amazing.

Blake,
Westland is my favorite distillery right now! The sherry is very smooth.
Westland American Oak Single Malt Whiskey

I found this to be drink able.
Westland Peated American Single Malt Whiskey
Blake,
Sweet, chocolate, smoke, peat. My favorite whiskey.
Westland Peated American Single Malt Whiskey
Christine,
Nice, moderate peat - first time I've tried an American peated whisky. Fresh botanicals with earthy smoke for the nose. Flavor is not nearly as rich or smooth as an Islay malt; the finish is long and a little spicy.
Westland Sherry Wood American Single Malt Whiskey
Jeff,
I theorize that it is modeled after the Macallan 12yr sherry cask. It's everything you'd expect from an young scotch. I'm never without a bottle, but I live in Seattle so it's easy to find.

Bryan,
Has an initial musty sweet scent with a hint of toasted nuts. Initial tasting notes are spice and oak from the barrel. Finish is slightly smokey with some caramel. Add some water and the spice dies down a bit, but barrel flavor remains, while the caramel pops a bit more. I didn't get the coffee flavor a lot of people have pulled from it.

Ray,
Great version of malt whisky. If you brewed this in Scotland it would be near the top.

David,
Nice Whiskey. The upfront came on strong initially with some unexpected hints of smoke but smoothed out the more I got into the glass. It had to be pretty good as I took this to a party and left the empty bottle.

Nicholas,
Smooth, malty, coffee bean finish.

Really good. Jasmine up front. Chocolate and bananas on the finish.

Fred,
I do not like any peat Scotch type whiskey.

John,
I would put Westland Sherry Wood Single Malt whiskey against a young Macallan any day. I have the luxury of living within an hour drive from the distillery and they are churning out some amazing offerings. The Sherry Wood is a great example of what an American distillery can do.
Westland Sherry Wood American Single Malt Whiskey
Paul,
Nuanced smoky sipper with what I look for in an enjoyable whiskey.
Westland Sherry Wood American Single Malt Whiskey
Lorenzo,
Nice opening notes from this whiskey; Nose is nice, and finish is long. Not a bad bottle, little pricey in my opinion.
Westland Sherry Wood American Single Malt Whiskey
Shana,
Excellent American single malt. It's Seattle. Bold, smoky, velvety chocolate, a bright fiery finish. Nose is equally enticing and nuanced.
