Master bottler Wemyss presents a BEE-autifully balanced and complex blend. The Hive.

Wemyss started out as a farm, sourcing some of the best barley in Scotland for almost a century. Today, Wemyss is a proud family of specialty craft Spirits.

Eventually — perhaps inevitably — someone on the farm said, “Hey… why don’t WE make some Whisky ourselves.” They traded grain for some fresh locally distilled neutral Spirit. The rest is, as they say, history. There are four brands under the Wemyss label, including Rimauresq Cru Classé, Lord Elcho Premium Blended Scotch, Wemyss Malts, and Darnley’s View Gin.

Wemyss Malts produces a wide range of Whiskies — from single malts through single casks and blends. But today we are talking about Wemyss Malts Scotch The Hive 8 YO. This is a tasty blend of malt Whiskies that have been married to create a waxy, honey sweet character. Thus the name “Hive,” but you got that right away, didn't you?

The blend includes a range of ages — from 8 to 10 years old. There are 16 different Speyside malts used in creating this dram. Smooth, complex, with a full mouth-coating texture. It's a contender for our favorite blended Scotch of the year.

90% of all Scotch Whisky released in the market is a blend. That’s a hell of a lot.
Is Scotch always Scottish? What do you think? Yes. The answer is yes.
Scotch Whisky is seldom aged in new barrels. Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks are usually used for maturation. In addition to that, Whisky is often matured or finished in various wine casks such as Sherry or Port.
Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland using a pot still distillation process at a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. It must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years (most Single Malts are matured longer, though).
Scotland is home to more than 20 million casks of maturing Whisky. That’s four for every person living there. Nuts!
First-class Whiskies are taxed not only by the state but also by the angels. This refers to the 4% of Whisky that evaporates from the barrels every year, a phenomenon known as the angel’s share.
