A rare and unique Irish Single Malt pulled from a single farm and aged in a quartet of premium casks.

Mark Reynier is one of the few living legends of both Whisky and Whiskey. He’s worked in Wine & Spirits since 1980. In 1996 he was a co-founder of independent bottler Murray David. In 2000 they purchased the dormant Bruichladdich Distillery and as CEO Mark returned it to unquestioned greatness. In 2012 the founders and investors voted to sell both operations to Rémy Cointreau Group — Mark was the lone dissenting vote. And while he might have taken his share of the millions and retired in comfort, he immediately turned around and purchased a facility from Diageo in Waterford, Ireland, and began distilling in 2015. This is his new passion — The Waterford Distillery. Here he and his team produce a range of fine Irish Whiskies.

Waterford has embarked on an exploration of terroir — where the barley is grown matters — called the Single Farm Origin Series. The barley for Rathclogh Edition 1.1 comes from a single local farm in a lowland dale. Grown by farmer Richard Raftice, his land is well-drained where the grain ripens quickly. The Spirit distilled from this grain is aged in a combination of 31% first-fill American oak, 19% virgin American oak, 25% French oak, and 25% Vin Doux Naturel Wine casks. The Spirit is bottled strong at 50% ABV with no chill filtration or artificial stuff to ensure that you can enjoy every nuance.

Smartass Corner:
In Gaelic, the word "Ráthchloch" means "stone fort" and refers to an ancient fortification that guarded the road from Kilkenny to Waterford.

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is complex, reflecting the wood as much as the grain, with notes of butterscotch, warm summer grass, bright lemon and orange zest, blackcurrant jam, and vanilla creams.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate is fruity and peppery with apples, fresh berries, dark cherry cordials, pecan pie, and black peppercorns.

Finish
The finish is warming with lingering notes of cinnamon and butterscotch.

Irish Whiskey became the most renowned Whiskey and most popular Spirit in the 19th century after the outbreak of phylloxera and the total devastation of Cognac production in France.
The Harp is the official emblem of Ireland, not the shamrock. The reason for shamrock’s fame is Saint Patrick.
Mark Reynier, and his partners reportedly made out like bandits, buying out the distillery from Diageo for a steal.
Whiskey producers lose on average about 2% of their stock a year to angels' share. For Jameson, the biggest one of the Irish Whiskey brands, it means 29 thousand bottles going into the air (literally) every day!
In the U.S., Irish Whiskey sales have jumped by over 500% since 2002. It’s the fastest growing category in the Spirits industry. There’s some news to raise your glass to.
Whisky or Whiskey? The spelling differs geographically. In Scotland, Japan, and some other parts of the world, distilleries usually spell it Whisky; in Ireland and the USA, they spell it Whiskey.
