Smooth, soft...insert Drake joke here.

Hard to throw shade at this drinker though. There is more transparency about its components than its industry counterparts, so you know what you are getting. It’s a drink that doesn't try to be something it’s not, and its just what you would expect from a pop sensation.

Hip Hop is no stranger to the likes of the Spirits industry, and neither is Brent Hocking, former Countrywide mortgage lender, and CEO of Virginia Black American Whiskey. An award-winning spirits producer best known for creating the original DeLeòn Tequila (which was later sold to Diageo and Diddy) and a receiver of the Robb Report Spirit of the Year award for three years in a row, and a back-to-back Grand Champion at the World Beverage Competition in Geneva, Switzerland, the SoCal native has a well-known nose for Liquor. His latest venture? A collabo with Drake and his Virginia Black Whiskey.

With a lower proof than most Bourbon’s at 40% ABV (taking some…restraint not to…make fun of Drake’s emotionally delicate proclivities here), and a name that seems a bit nonsensical, considering it doesn’t seem to have ties to Virginia whatsoever (it is bottled and distilled in Lawrenceburg, Drake is from Canada, we digress…), it is a smooth drink. Drake we do have to ask though, why not a Canadian Whisky?

So if you can finally manage to get all the Drake jokes out of your system, and want to try his Whiskey, here is what you can expect: Virginia Black is a smoother and sweeter Bourbon Whiskey, an intentional effort to attract those who aren’t traditionally Bourbon drinkers. It is bottled in a luxurious, art-deco inspired glass, with elegant gold detail. Cheers.

What does Virginia Black American Whiskey taste like?

The Flavour Spiral™ shows the most common flavours that you'll taste in Virginia Black American Whiskey and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavour Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Dog Dogson's
Tennessee Whiskey closely parallels Bourbon, but a final filter through sugar-maple charcoal (called the Lincoln Country Process) is what some producers say differentiates Tennessee whiskey from its Kentucky cousin. The finish is sweeter and smoother than Bourbon.
