Ray,
First, I drink my whiskey neat so this may be a factor. The first couple of glasses were underwhelming but I found that after a few days, the flavors really came out. While I wouldn't put this in my personal top 10, it was a very good, smooth whiskey. Simple but flavorful.
Nathan,
Advent #16. This was better the second time I tried it. Smells of butter and tastes of butter and a hint of honey. That fades to the dry apple and wood for the finish.
Maryjo,
With two small ice cubes. Honey first on the tongue the the vanilla develops. Slight woody smell. Dry.
Lawrence,
Lite phenol nose. Lite finish. Gentle middle
John,

Pam,
A must-have for the stories it tells.
Ryan,
So smooth and a very good sipping Whiskey. I love trying small batch. I'd buy this again for sure.
David,
Good but basic
Kevin,
Really nice whiskey, smooth
Skip,
This came in my 2020 Advent Calendar and was definitely an unusual drink - but something I would buy for sure. Butter and honey and botanicals.
Jeffrey,
Real easy to drink. Flavorful without being trite.
Terry,
I have wanted to taste this one. Flavor card spot on. Smooth clean finish.
Stephen,
A really nice surprise. Very smooth, with a reasonable burn on the back. Mild notes of fruit and a little floral. Easy to drink, will definitely look for again.
Nicholas,
Soooo buttery and dry, love it. Getting some rye energy on it really. Nose is all honey and butter. Palate BUTTER, some apple. End dries out so quick. More BUTTER, and i do get the pineapple. Favorite of the Flaviar calendar so far!
Ric,
I'm new to Bourbon. This was my first try. Maybe I don't like Bourbon, or maybe this one just isn't my jam. It was OK, but not something I'm dying to reach for again.
David,
The pineapple really makes this a unique taste for me. I love it. Well balanced and great finish. Might make it a staple.
Michael,
Super smooth, great buttery taste. Love it!
Aaronde,
Nice sipper. The honey and toasted wood notes are what I pick up on first. Great story on the creation of the distillery and company as well.
Frank,
(Advent 2020, #16) Interesting news that's buttery with honey and maybe a little something else. Tasting it, you get a lovely buttery smooth flavor with some like toasted oak as well. The finish is very nice. This is one to add to my bar.
Tracy,
Fruity and lighter than I expected, with a hint of honey (but not sweet) and not too much of a bite.
Matthew,
Honey and floral fruits! A little water really breaks up the oily mouthfeel and brings the browned butter out and tames the little bit of spice. Very smooth, very light. I haven't tried the 1856, so I would very much like to compare the two another time.
Todd,
Very fruity and sweet. Just a little too much if those flavors for me to pick this one up.
JON,
This was one of the whiskeys in my Flavair Advent Calendar. From the first taste I thought, I need to buy this one. Then, I checked the info card and found it was Uncle Nearest and I already keep this one in my bar as a regular. I highly recommend it.
Tyler,
Hands down the best whiskey I and the fiance have ever had the pleasure of tasting. It was so light and fruity and that dry finish was phenomenal. I have many a bottle of some great great whiskeys, and maybe this just paired perfectly post dinner, but I couldn't believe the pricepoint this dram lies in with a taste and finish like that.
Paul,
I never wouldn’t have thought to describe the flavor with butter, but it’s a great description. Pair that with spice and bite and it’s a really unique profile.
Adam,
This had a distinctive fruit flavor. Didn’t detract from the overall quality. I like this a lot.
Louise,
The honey dominates. I would drink it in a backwoods still with someone playing the guitar and someone else blowing in a jug.
Jason,
Very nice. Like toasted butterscotch, with just a little spice at the end. I’d drink this again.
Vincent,
Advent Day 16 - Very pleasant nose of butter, honey, and toasted wood. Palate was buttery smooth with hints of apples. Long, dry finish. A nice refreshing dram to have after some of those prior smoky ones this Advent.
Mike,
Classic, buttery, hint of sweet.
James,
Unfortunately, this pales in comparison the Uncle Nearest 1856.
1884 is light in aroma and taste. Both are faintly sweet with a mineral-dry quality in the background. Alcohol burn is moderate, but mellows with some water.
If you really like this then I highly recommend the superior 1856
2020 advent d 16
Thomas,
Pleasant and easy to sip. Kind of forgettable though.
Derek,
Apple mellowed by butter on the nose, with a soft botanical note. Well-balanced flavor on the palate with an overall slight sweetness accented by a touch of vanilla. Some taste of wood on the finish. Smooth, rich mouthfeel.
Quite a pleasant surprise in the Advent calendar. One of my favorites so far. Seems like good value for the price as well.
Mark,
Buttery smooth taste with an apple flavor on the tongue
Matthew,
A advent entry I'm tempted to finish in one sitting instead of saving for comparison tastings later.
I actually get cherry up front on the nose, along with brown sugar and the nuttiness of cooked butter; almost like a cherry cobbler with streusel topping cooling in the next room. Additional nosing brings out a charred oak underlying everything else. A more concentrated fruitiness and sweetness on the tongue - maybe apple? - with a hit of vanilla, spice and tannins at the end.
Really just an approachable and drinkable whiskey that manages to retain some character and nuance.
Aaron,
This is a damn fine whisky. Smooth, easy to drink, very flavorful. It isn't overly complex, but that isn't a bad thing. At around $50, this is an absolute killer.
Dustin,
The butter flavor is a bit crazy
James,
Exactly as advertised—light, sweet, tasteful
Michele,
A surprise of spice on the palate. We’ve had their 1856 but think this is better. Sweet and Spicy.
Ryan,
Very light and bright. Sweet and woody with a bit of spice on the tail end. I would enjoy a glass now and again.
Jesse,
Pretty generic whiskey in my opinion. I get the vanilla and butter. Nothing spectacular
Christopher,
Smooth great sipping
Kris,
Good sweet and rich dram. And just enough spice to remind you that you are drinking whiskey.
Andrew,
Very enjoyable. The sweet and buttery notes accentuate the long finish
Bryan,
Nice and smooth with a buttery after flavor
Dave,
Great story, but unfortunately not a flavor to back up. More of a bourbon fan than sour mash. Would go elsewhere
Daniel,
Advent 2020 #16 - smooth, great warmth. Hints of sweetness grow towards the backend.
Matthew,
Pretty good but I prefer the 1856
Anthony,
Every now and then I like a bite.
NATHANIEL,
Good whiskey. No edges, high quality.
KEVIN,
This is an awesome bourbon. Extremely smooth with a very pleasant finish. It might become one of my favorite bourbons for drinking straight or on the rocks!
Raye,
Strong spicy flavor, dry tang on the finish. Good with ice, sweet cocktail, not citrus or tart
Darin,
Sweet clean nose, sweet/honey on the front end harsh bitter after taste.
Craig,
Less complex and less flavor compared to 1856.
Roy,
Very nice sipping whiskey. Smooth, with a touch of sweetness. Can't wait to try it in a cocktail.
Dusty,
Good flavor. Nice and smooth just like the 1856 batch, but this one has less bite then the 1856 batch.
James,
Very smooth and flavorful.
Barry,
Pretty smooth. A little on the sweet side. Won't buy again. If offered in a bar or party definitely wouldn't turn down.
Robb,
Excellent. On the lighter side. Great especially at this price.
Jennifer,
Excellent, goes down smooth, maybe too smooth. Easy to drink, great whiskey for yourself or to share with others.
Chris,
Lovely
Patrick,
Only a slightly sweet aroma and taste. Very smooth and one I’ll definitely buy again. It’s not my “go-to” but, I’ll reach past others for this one.
Will,
I liked it. Pretty smooth.
Connor,
Very smooth. Nice to have a glass alone or with 7up or a coke!
Ted,
Delicious! Loved it! New favorite!
Jon,
Not too young for a bourbon so smoothness is expected. Well executed, tannins on point, char expressing through caramelized oak flavor. I love it.
Jacob,
Didn’t quite live up to expectations. A little spicier than anticipated, but still good.
Fredrick,
Great taste and smooth
Brian,
Well done. Pretty much right on with the flavor profile. Smooth, with notes of vanilla, butter and citrus. Just a little burn on the end. Good stuff!
Jack,
Nice caramel or butterscotch flavors with some cinnamon spiciness. The sweetness us nor overdone. Compares well with other whiskeys and bourbons.
Scott,
Classic Tennessee whiskey taste, like Jack Daniels. I’m a fan!
Mitch,
I enjoyed reading about the history. Very smooth. Works great in an Old Fashion. The bitters, cherry and orange with the butter, honey and vanilla flavors of the whiskey blend well.
Allegra,
the best American whiskey I've tried. I was curious due to the history, and while it's quite a bit sweeter than my taste it is very nice. I've found it makes by far the best Manhattans ever!
Chris,
Very nice.
Ben,
Very smooth, maybe a little too much for my taste.
SCOTT,
Really enjoyed the taste. It was a pleasure to the last drop!
Warren,
Very nice
Newell,
Excellent! Very smooth with smoky oak, not peat and caramel. Highly aromatic though I am not able to name the flavors. I tried it on ice first, then neat, and went back to on the rocks as my favorite. A few more tastings and that's where I'll be. This is smooth but definitely strong alcohol. Only 80 proof?!
Michael,
I haven't tasted it yet, I got it for the historical meaning...I don't drink much, I buy and save unique things like this to show others...But as far as buying Uncle Nearest 1884 I would suggest it to anybody who likes a really well crafted whiskey...
Sam,
Love the history of the whisky. The flavors were there. Very smooth for a young whisky. Definitely something I will consider buying again.
Alan,
This is my new go-to bourbon. It was smooth, yet robust, neat. It was like drinking a well-blended mix of rye and bourbon, my two favorite whiskies.
Michael,
I think it is excellent for the price. I found it to be quite smooth. I did tend to add an ice cube (small one) due to the temperature outside. I’m not a fancy taster, so “it was really good.”
Ben,
Very smooth, a little light for my personal taste.
Alan,
Wonderful to sip neat. Somewhere between the spiciness of rye and the sweetness of bourbon. It goes down smooth with a slow, mellow burn that doesn't bite.
Sergio,
Very much like a Jack Daniel's. You can see how this recipe inspired Jack Daniels.
Carmund,
Buttery, smooth, delicious. I have to take my time with this or it will be gone way too soon.
Antti,
It is an outstanding, elegant, Tennessee Whiskey that has an aromatic birth; while an elegant life leads to a crisp & dry death of medium length with hints of apple juice, pineapple, cherry & toasted wood.
Kelvin,
Bought this bottle for my older brother. he is a Jack Daniels fanatic I think he now he is an uncle nearest Fan
guest,
Very nice, smooth and I get a little cherry in the flavor. I really love the history behind the brand.
Staci,
Loved it❤️❤️❤️!!Smooth balanced and enjoyable.
Matthew,
I find it nicely abrasive on the front end but incredibly smooth in mouth feel and on the back end
Emily,
It's distinct. Not a lot of caramel like others. Cherry in the flavor. Sweet but not syrupy. Very nice.
Steven,
Disappointing
Philip,
Great taste, good finish. Very smooth.
John,
I just found my new favorite
Brian,
Great taste and finish
Matthew,
Nice, smooth. Good flavor
Darrien,
I love it taste great
Brendan,
Such a good whiskey with an awesome story behind it. Delicious and very reasonably priced. I’ve been told it’s smokier than the 1856 but still very enjoyable.
Philip,
Smooth taste, Great neat or with A big ice cube and Cigar
Charles,
Great depth with a smoothness to the backside. Never tried before, one of my favorites now.
Andrew,
Ever since I read that Frank Sinatra was a Jack Daniels guy I have always tried hard to make it my favorite. I drank a lot of it. The story of Uncle Nearest really had a big impact on me. I ordered it immediately. I didn’t expect much, just wanted the bottle on my shelf to share the story. This whiskey really surprised me. It had a familiar Tennessee taste but it’s something different. I loved how buttery and vanilla it was. I absolutely love it. I’ll be watching out for the Premium and others from Uncle Nearest. I am very impressed!!
David,
I'm not a fan of Dickell because of the stale fruit-loops aftertaste, but this is different. It's the same company, and that fruity taste is there, but in some way, in Uncle Nearest, they have left the afteburn clean... it's not for everyone, and it's definitely a "Tennessee-style" bourbon (hardly right to call it bourbon, I think, but it's a good change and has an interesting palate.
Jimmie,
Loved it! Very smooth and great flavor profile.
Aaron,
I’m a bit confused by all the positive reviews. I bought this and was so excited to try it as I had heard such great things. Bought with a number of other items and some friends and I decided to do a blind taste test. This came in dead last for all of us! Tastes very young with high corn content. I’m a Buffalo Trace flavor profile kinda guy and this missed the mark...BADLY! Haven’t been this disappointed by a new bottle in a LONG time. Ok with mixers but that’s about it.
Ryan,
A very enjoyable and smooth whiskey.
Trevin,
Great whiskey from the creator of Kentucky whiskey!
Josh,
Very delicious, smooth whiskey. It lacks complexity in my opinion, but the taste is very good and drinks very well neat or over ice. I think i was just expecting to taste more notes or flavors at the beginning, middle, or end of the sip
Timothy,
So a friend recommended this whiskey, love the story of how it came to be! The color of the whiskey is beautiful light amber, the nose is light and beautiful, easy whisky smoothness, sweet oaky finish. Sometimes we (my wife and I) pick up notes of peanuts. So weird! Oh the bottle is awesome too!
Brent,
Very easy drinking, interesting flavors drawn from the 7 years or so. A good proof, I'll make it my staple TN whiskey for sure.
Glenn,
I should not review for fear you guys will buy it all out before my reorder. I do love this whiskey. Great for summer months since it is a little sweet on the lips and smooth. Has a pear tone, light oak but not smokey.
Elizabeth,
Very light oak scent from the bottle. I used a large ice cube with it. Fruity in front, has a bite in the end but very smooth. It wasn't as sweet to me as I expected given the prior reviews but it's what I imagined a whiskey would be like. Definitely a keeper in my home bar.
Stevan,
This was surprising with a nearly over-pearing nose and pear being the dominant center of the flavor spiral. It is a tad sweet on the front but it is eminently drinkable, smooth and complex. Great finish too.
Alex,
An excellent choice and a fine Tennessee whisky! The easy to enjoy & not to harsh profile makes it a great choice for any drinker. The butter & honey are smooth from nose to finish.
Debra,
One of the best bottles I have ever purchased!!
Andrew,
... just opened to find a treasure, 1856 was high on the sweets, this batch is starkly different. Warm notes, smooth throughout, little sweetness on finish. Overall one of my favorites. Could become a staple in my bar
Jared,
love it for the price
Alan,
Buy this whiskey. It is very smooth and a great sipper. I prefer is neat. One of my favorites.
On top of that, Uncle Nearest is sending masks to frontline workers at no cost. Great whiskey and even greater company.
Thank you Uncle Nearest!
Ron,
Loved it
Keith,
Smooth and tasty! One of my top 10.
Robert,
Apple juice with a dry finish. Approachable without a deep burn.
Robert,
Buttery and woody, it's good but not a necessity
Darren,
Quite tasty
Duane,
Truly a great Tennessee whisky. I prefer the 1856 more due to its greater complexity.
Wendel,
Smooth and sweet. Can drink over a cube of ice or with a splash of ginger ale! It’s a staple on my home bar and the story behind the brand is a great conversation starter.
Dustin,
A little sweeter than I normally go for but I love the history and story of the company. Makes for a great night cap.
Mark,
Very nice flavor. A little harsh, but smooths out with the second glass. All in all, a good whiskey with great flavor.
Ara,
Outstanding whisky!! Extremely smooth with a long finish. Tennessee Whisky at its best!
